  1. This was really helpful! Glad to finally have a resource for interviews when it's so competitive during the pandemic…

  2. Thanks for the advice, Amanda! I completely agree having a professional background for 'zoom' meetings and interviews and meetings. It makes such a difference in feeling confident and prepared.

  3. Great wisdom here! I love what you said about talking to those in your dream job and finding out what steps you need to take. Love this interview!

  4. We've always hired those who reach out before a job is available. They're first on the list b/c – as Amanda says – they're intentional about it.

  5. such good advice about reaching out even if you don't know if there is a job! I know people who did this, and they kept on contacting. Then the company called a few months later for them to interview, and they got it! Once you get to the interview round, employers want to see who genuinely wants THEIR job.

  6. Doing an informational interview is a good idea despite what some may think. I got my first job out of grad school this way. It may not lead to a job every time but it gives you connections and a possible in if a job does become available. Just saying, every little bit helps especially now!

  7. This is awesome advice! I’ve read a few of Amanda Nachman’s pieces and am a big fan of College Magazine. She is always right on point in her direction. Pre-ordered this book and truly can’t wait for it to arrive.

  8. Really smart advice for serious people looking for smart jobs for a lifetime! This book is a great gift idea for graduating high school or college students , or anyone looking to improve their lives by doing what they love and love what they’re doing!

  9. This is excellent advice! When I was looking to change jobs, I made “courageous connections” with people from different industries just to better understand the different job titles out there and what mattered to me in a role and company. It’s how I ultimately pivoted from writing for a health care consulting company to a tech company, where I’m much happier!

  10. Loved the point about being intentional! In pursuit of networking and making courageous connections, being genuine and sincere can really go a long way. Great advice!!

  11. I swear to God if this lady says "and what I mean by that…" one more time, I'm going to throw my phone out the window. Expand your linguistic horizons, woman.

  12. Video could just be condensed down to 2:58 for 3 seconds. No book needed. Networking will nearly 85-100% get you the job. Learn to network. If you don't have networking skills, pray to whoever to make you a smarter person.

  13. I'm not looking for a job that requires wearing a mask FULL TIME! I'm looking for a job that doesn't require wearing it during shift. Not worth risking my life.

  14. Act like you are a white male just like Bill Gates. Everyone knows Gates was born a woman and Melinda was born a man.
