1. The Irvine church shooter was born in Taiwan to immigrant Chinese mainlander parents. He is then legally a Taiwanese national but apparently identifies as Chinese and supports the unification of Taiwan with China. In the US, he has been a key member of a Chinese Communist Party organization advocating the unification agenda and has supported the last pro-unification Taiwanese presidential candidate, Han Kuo-yu. His opposition to the independence of Taiwan from China is the apparent reason for the attack, as the Taiwanese Presbyterian Church has historically been a bastion of native Taiwanese identity and nationality in opposition to the Chinese mainlander/KMT oppression of the native population in Taiwan. It is essential to recognize that this attack happened in the context of a long, continuing history of authoritarian Chinese regimes attempting to erase native Taiwanese identity through cultural and literal genocide since the 228 Incident in 1947. It is another shot fired by the Chinese mainlander/KMT faction in the civil strife in Taiwan very likely with the hand of China’s authoritarian, terrorist regime behind it. We should not dismiss it as just another American mass shooting among others. It may become as significant as the first shots fired in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. This church mass shooting may well be seen in retrospect as the opening salvo of China’s eventual war against Taiwan. Fundamentally, both wars will be simply authoritarian attempts to destroy democracy. If freedom and democracy are to survive, the democracies of the world need to react as a matter of principle to both attacks with the seriousness and urgency these conflicts demand. In the case of Taiwan, the world could start with the immediate recognition of Taiwan's independence and pledge of military support in defense of its sovereignty, as it has done for Ukraine. The defense of Taiwan will be no less than the defense of the principle of democracy itself.

3. The shooter was from Taiwan, not mainland China. He has been identified as being born and raised in Taichung and has a family in Taiwan. His parents were mainlanders that went to Taiwan in the 1949 period and he was born in 1953. It is inaccurate to label the shooter as someone from the mainland. He comes out of the ROC system in Taiwan and has nothing to do with current day mainland China.

The people in Taiwan and mainland and their diaspora overseas will all be radicalised to fight or confront each other whether in Taiwan, mainland China or overseas. If the Western countries and are genuine for peace and harmony, stop meddling in the relationship between Taiwan and mainland China. Instead try to love and harmony to this world. And also destroy all the guns and other weapons in America. Life will become normal again in this world.
