  2. Layoffs at Tesla

That's why Elon Musk is firing so many employees

The US automaker Tesla will soon release figures for the second quarter. Will the e-car pioneer set new delivery records? A recent wave of layoffs raises questions – the investigation into the causes leads to Buffalo.

Commodity experts warn: not enough lithium is available for electric cars

In an interview with the Handelsblatt, Michael Schmidt from the BGR says. "Even if all projects currently planned and under construction are implemented on schedule and we assume moderate growth in demand, we will not have enough lithium to meet global demand in 2030." According to the investigations of the raw materials experts, the demand for lithium will increase worldwide to at least 316,000 or more than 550,000 tons per year in the coming years, depending on which scenario is assumed. For comparison: In 2020, global lithium production was just 82,000 tons. A good 90 percent goes into the production of lithium-ion batteries for electric cars. The experts assume that in 2030, in the worst case, up to 300,000 tons of lithium per year will be missing. Even in the best case, 90,000 tons would still be missing, more than is currently being mined each year.

Lithium reserves available worldwide are sufficient for a maximum of 25 million electric cars

With the planned EU ban on internal combustion engines from 2035, however, the demand for electric cars will increase even faster than assumed in the worst case studies. The BGR is not alone in looking at this. The British government's scientific advisory body, the Advanced Propulsion Center (APC), comes to a similar conclusion. The analysts of the APC assume that the 40 million electric cars forecast worldwide cannot be built at all due to the lack of lithium. The well-known lithium reserves are already completely exhausted in 25 million electric vehicles. "There just isn't enough lithium there, even though it's not a scarce resource geologically," the analysts warn.

The world lithium reserves are 21 million tons. Most of it in Chile and Australia. During dismantling, there are always lengthy approval processes and projects that have already been planned repeatedly come to a standstill.

Mexico is nationalizing the entire lithium industry, and Chile is also considering doing so. This would already affect prices. The lithium price has already more than doubled in the last two years. With the increasing scarcity, however, prices are likely to rise disproportionately. The hope that it will soon be possible to produce electric cars more cheaply than vehicles with combustion engines also dies

Habeck warns of lack of lithium

The supply situation has now reached our Economics Minister Robert Habeck. His authority warns of a lithium shortage. However, just warning about it will not be enough, but as always, you will look in vain for a plan on how to counteract it. With this, Habeck runs the risk that the next project will blow up in the face of the planned sales figures for electric cars and the ban on combustion engines. Already during the expansion of the gas-fired power plants, he created a grave of billions with the gas bottleneck in a very short time.

  4. The set back is the legislative branch is the only one with authority to set guidelines, not a president and his unelected agencies. Get your congress representative to set regulations.

  5. “Biden Climate Agenda” Sounds 100% more accurate than “Climate Change” I love it when the truth is accidentally slipped in.

  6. There is a million km Tesla it’s had 9 drive units replaced the mcu was replaced more than 1 and the battery more than twice it’s in car magazine website I think the guy is from Sweden that is bad reliability in any metric

  7. If we had 1/2 as as much coverage & concern with Title 42 being lifted after 2 million xtra people already in the country bringing in possible infectious diseases, bringing in drugs, possibly terrorists, & will be in the country & nothing known about them & will be definitely skipping their “processing hearing”.. as we do climate change possibly causing diseases, we might be a lil better off. Just a thought.

  8. ABC, you have some dumb, dumb right-wing commenters. Wow. Like gas prices are Biden's fault or how we could all just move to the wilderness to combat climate change… Real comments… Blue-collar Geniuses…

  9. First amendment allows ABC to spread their propaganda freely at the time when biggest economy in the world is clasping right in front of our very own eyes. Run away inflation, gas prices going through the roof, stock market is crashing.
ABC wants you to focus on JAN 6, abortion ,,trans and gay rights and above all bad man Donald Trump.
Journalism is dead. All about forcing the narratives and agenda down our throats

  10. They can enjoy the short term
Dumb fame, like trump these guys too will and should be removed. When someone is fighting the truth they know it’s only a matter of time before it will catch up to them.

  11. Some of the Supreme Court judges were picked by an illegitimate president, they need to be removed. All they are doing right now is, losing all credibility.

  12. Is the Supreme Court ruling on subjects that could lead to deaths of American citizens based on the American dollar? These people have too much power with no consequence for their actions.

  13. Coming from them who hate all things that are not like them, and who's GOAL is a world of themselves thinking only!Be carefully what you wish for!

  14. We now realize that the conservative wing of the Supreme Court are obstructionists that are playing politics and do not regard constitutional past precedence as being important. If a Republican had proposed the same exact deals, the laws would have passed and remained. This justices are hypocrites.

  15. Insane. Imagine the work behind solving and moving to a healthy environment and the Supreme Court whose job is to protect you and look for the future says, no we don't want that!! Now, imagine the stubborn minds around trying to convince them to move forward and live better if the Supreme Court does that image the rest. Super sad.

  16. Pfft, they are putting chemicals trails in the air on purpose to manipulate the weather and they know they kill millions of people and they were not afraid to admit it on camera in an interview. Oh but that never makes the news
