Casey Smitherman took a sick student with no insurance to a clinic using a false name, claimed he was her son and got him a medical prescription, according to police.

Who ever told on her need to be killed.
I might be a bit racist like most of you but when it comes to saving or helping children it doesn't matter what kid it is. It doesn't really matter who helped either. I commend this woman because she reminds of my good hearted mother.
A sick child needed medical attention and she got it for him. DONE. Look at doctors and institutions in america like psychiatric hospitals, ambulance companies, drug rehab centers, who take advantage of people's health insurance plans, bill for services not received, recommend procedures/surgeries that patients don't need. Prescribe drugs that patients don't need. That's INSURANCE FRAUD.
Yeah, I forgot that the US doesn't a universal health care system lol
this is bullshit! she was trying to help a sick child who couldn't get the meds he needs and she is a criminal? what about the ridiculous amount of money the insurance is charging!?
Mr. Trump, please help Americans with affordable health care for all. You would become a hero for this.
She is a hero â¤ï¸ÂÂ
Billions in QE and bailouts for banksters and big corporations; billions to stage a coup d'etat in Venezuela for Chevron and Haliburton; yet nothing for a sick child.
Because that's socialism!
What a sick f'n country we live in.
The kid snitched on her? Damn. Kids ain't shit
Ok, so let me get this straight. A teacher finds that a pupil is dangerously ill so she takes him to hospital and she has to apologise? She has to actually fucking apologise for helping someone in sickness? Move over Priests and Levites, the USA coming thru on the wrong side of the road. You're country is truly sick while she deserves a bloody medal.

She is a hero
It’s sad when a good person gets punished for trying help someone in need. Wake up call… there needs to be more medical resources for those in need!!
No good fucking deed shall go unpunished. This sick fuck didn't know how to keep his big, ungrateful mouth shut? What was he, four? And where the hell are his parents or guardians? She's lucky they didn't accuse her of having an affair with him. My teachers were my heroes. I wrote a book a couple years ago and dedicated an entire chapter to my English and Journalism teachers, my counselor, and my principal. WTF is wrong with people nowadays? They are like a bad refrigerator: can't keep shit.
Not going to popular but she was generous with the insurance company’s money. She could have paid for the treatment herself. She deserves to keep her job.
OMG! She LIED! And got a grand total of…. .$233. FOR SOMEONE ELSE! Here's a concept. Is it really stealing if you steal a penny from a millionaire in order to feed a child? The fundamental question is did the millionaire get HARMED as a result? No and thus, there is no crime. That's how I look at it. If a company has a billion dollars in assets and someone gets a couple hundred for a sick kid, well, that's hardly worth going to court for, wouldn't you say? I mean, police won't lift a finger for theft below $250 if the person is out of state. They just won't do anything or contact the other state's police force cuz it's not worth it MONEY wise to the police.
The comments are just sad. Yes it is nice to care about a kid who needs help, but why does the first idea include stealing, and yes that was stealing. She might as well have robbed a bank to get the money.
According to the FBI fraud is estimated to cost over $40 billion a year, and you don't think the insurance companies just absorb that do you? The average family is paying an extra $400 to 700 a year in increased premiums as a result. (Same FBI stats.)
Do people know how many charities are out there? How about a Go Fund me page? My Daughter just set one up for a friend of ours who has cancer. Get the kid on the local news and money would be flowing in. 5 minutes online and I already found multiple charities.
Another search lists 7 free and income based clinics in Elwood Indiana.
This kid has strep throat. CVS Minute Clinic would have done the test for $99 -$129 plus the cost of the kit, less than $30. Amoxicillin (common for strep,) would cost $15.98 without insurance. (generic.) Grand total:
$175
Or guess what, for less than $27 you could get the strep test at Sams Club. (No membership required.) and again $16 for the prescription.
$43.
Come on, the Superintendent couldn't put that on her credit card?
Because she went to an emergency clinic the bill was $233. Again could easily fit on a credit card, especially for somebody who can afford a $5,000 bail.
Charity doesn't start in somebody else's pocket.
Let her keep her job. God bless her!
What a bunch of assholes ,poor woman and child.
are system is broken when a kid born and a USA citizen cant get heath care but a illegal person get free medical care , i am proud of her helping a child that needed help
If the teacher/nurse put the rules ahead of a students life because it was more important to them then neither should be around any school. Had the student collapsed during class and died at the hospital it would of been a brief news item and nothing would of come of it outside of the city/county it occurred. There's always an excuse why doing nothing is the best option and covering someone's backside is why the Superintendent was threatened with jail even tough she did the right thing for the legally wrong reasons.
I think she has motive. She wants his D.
She is a mf hero.
She reminds me of my favorite principal
What a very nice person she is!
where is the kids parents? call the child protective services on the parents!! The insurance company busted this lady easy. when you sign up for health insurance, did she put employee and children? most insurance companies demand a birth certificate when new kids are added onto a health insurance policy for the first time
She is not a heroine, she is a stupid person (as are all of the commenters who applaud what she did). She could have endangered the kid's life if he was allergic to Amoxicillin (many people are). If the child is poor, they are covered by medicaid and there is no reason to commit fraud. If the family has enough money to not qualify for medicaid but still refused to take him to a clinic, she should have called child services. After all, if the family was endangering the student this time, isn't it likely that they would endanger him in the future? At only $233, she should have paid for it out of her own pocket if she didn't want to involve child services (instead of defrauding the insurance company).
Just a side note: there should be an investigation of her because buying clothes for a 15 year-old, cleaning his house and committing fraud for him is the kind of thing that "educators" who have been having sexual relationships with students do.
Comments are filled with literal child brain low iq idiots and edgy teenager / 20 somethings that have never left their mother's basement talking about how 'good' the for profit healthcare system is.
Damn lol people fucked up these days she tried to help him

No one should have to go through this in this country. We should have one plan for all and everyone should pay a cheap monthly premium. All we're doing is paying these high premiums with minimal coverage. Why? There should be no competition when it comes to health care.
If Trump hadn't destroyed the ACA then it wouldn't have happened. It is sad the "richest" country won't take care of basic needs for the citizens.
What educator wouldn't understand this?? Imagine a kid who needed help and wasn't able to get it for himself!
why didn't the superintendent hold the parents accountable? she was not the parent. where are the parents?
Almost feels like a Robin Hood story. She did a bad thing for a good cause, I call her innocent. Imagine if the child had otherwise died?
Good for her, health care is just to expensive. She did the right thing.
Glad i live in a country where we have free healthcare for all. And education……America is strange on so many levels…
GOOD FOR THE SCHOOL BOARD!
It’s not healthcare problem it’s a parenting problem. The kids parents could have taken him to a dr and used Medicaid
GOOD INTENT! I AM A SCHOOL NURSE AND THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM. WE NEED UNIVERSAL HEALTH COVERAGE IN THIS COUNTRY!
America – richest country in the world.
Man im sry but im proud of her. Good for her.
She broke the law but seriously? What an absolute waste of court and police resources. Charges should never have been filed.
