Most children are attached to adults in some way or another, there's no way to help a child without that help also benefitting an adult. Oh well, isn't a child worth it. The "every man for himself" philosophy leaves children at a great disadvantage.

My sister was/is dedicated to her kids at school and teaching them on many levels, but when Covid came she went into a deep depression because she was not there to support these rural children anymore and she knew which ones would struggle the most. She taught them to look at life beyond their physical being and their family situation in a very grounded way. She let all of them know that they ARE good enough . She teaches social etiquette to those silly little farm fifth grade boys. I am allowed To say that because We, (my Husband for 36 years and the father of our children) have raised two silly little boys into wonderful young men.

Well it took me until recently to understand that neglect is a form of abuse. This is such a complicated and deep issue.
