  1. The Romish Church now presents a fair front to the world, covering with apologies her record of horrible cruelties. She has clothed herself in Christ-like garments; but she is unchanged. Every principle of popery that existed in past ages exists today. The doctrines devised in the darkest ages are still held. Let none deceive themselves. The popery that Protestants are now so ready to honor is the same that ruled the world in the days of the Reformation, when men of God stood up, at the peril of their lives, to expose her iniquity. She possesses the same pride and arrogant assumption that lorded it over kings and princes, and claimed the prerogatives of God. Her spirit is no less cruel and despotic now than when she crushed out human liberty, and slew the saints of the Most High.” (Great Controversy, p. 570 1888).

  2. Basically, this is not a Pope Francis problem, it is a Catholic Church problem.
Whatever he says is not going to count for much when you realize the number of Indian children who were assaulted and killed in these "monastic" schools where non-clerical people were not important.
Speaking as a 35 year retired public school teacher, the victimization of children is so easy because children are so vulnerable.
Having gone through Catholic schools from K-12, I saw nuns whose only solution for discipline in the 40's was to slap and hit young children.
To see this happening to the Indian children is not too far from what I suffered. The only difference is that I had Catholic "brain-dead" parents who supported me through all of this, but accepted the cruelty of the nuns as "appropriate." (Sad!!!)
These Indian children had no parents and, therefore, the nuns could do whatever they wanted to discipline these children and their form of religion felt cruelty was appropriate to achieve spiritual means!

  3. "Evil, need not be committed only by demonic monsters but by morons and imbeciles as well, especially if, as we see in our own day, their deeds are sanctioned by religious authority."
    — Hannah Arendt (Eichmann in Jerusalem: A Report on the Banality of Evil)

  4. Indegineous people want reconciliation? Sounds like code for more money. Nothing anyone says or does will bring back these children so get over it

  5. The pope apologizing is a waste of time in my opinion. All this happened well before he was even alive. Also as horrible as it was nothing will bring back these children. So all this apology is smoke and mirrors

  6. In America the slaughter of the Native Americans began with the Democrat parties first President Andrew Jackson. He defied Chief Justice John Jays ruling that the Native Americans own their land and cannot be removed. Andrew Jackson said "Lets see him stop me" and began the massacre.

  7. No. Unlike some rotten apples in the Catholic church, who did bad things in the Americas, while the majority gave them the light of Christianity and with them created an equal beautiful nations – the Protestants (American Anglo-saxons) institutionalized their crimes and as a MAJORITY were the ones who comitted rasist acts for MANY YEARS against the natives, enslaved, murder and STOLE their lands while giving them a fake heretic religion with no real practice – they should apologize and give back the lands!!

  8. The Pope is a humble man and he did apologize on behalf of some Christians that did wrong in the past. Now if they don’t want to accept the apology is up to them. God save the Pope!

  9. Not good enough. Easpecially when he didnt return sacred items they stole … and that they charged a fee to attend and the money went to themselves and not the cause and the fact that preists all over the world continue to be involved in abuse of children and youth and himan trafficking…

  10. O you who believe! do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people. Quran 5:51

  11. This pope talks about reconciliation and how sorry he is but every rime he speaks its in spiritual imagery that has no practical value to the natives sitting before him. Where is the plan to address their concerns…apologies may be welcome BUT ARE NOT ENOUGH!!!!

  12. As a Christian and abuse victim I am sorry for the victims. I am also sorry for those who are being manipulated by a darker and more sinister agenda that involves pushing efforts to secularize all and everything. I still remember after John Paul II died there was talk in the media about how it was the 21st Century and they whined about all the fuss over a "old religious man dying". It was truly sickening how they tried to disrespect him. Let's be honest, had JPII died in 2022, the media would have gone dark and simply pretended he did not exist. Now with Pope Francis doing this, there is talk about how "It's not enough" and the phony ambulance chasing types are out in full force trying to get a cut of the pie for themselves. I see comments in this very group trying to say that the Church should apologize for wiping out Pagan Irish culture from over 1000 years ago! Where does the buck stop?! Now us Christians will have to apologize for the crusades because some 16 year old learned in her classroom that Crusader Knights were killing Muslims and that equals 21st century racism?! It will never end at this point and Satan will not rest until every cross is removed from every home and everybody is depraved and secular.

  13. After reading and watching in documentaries what those poor families went through from 1880’s until the 90’s! 90’s!!!! Is absolutely horrific!!! An apology is the least the pope and church could have done.
