If I’m Kevin Durant, I’m not playing even if I’m perfectly healthy. Why? Because since Kevin got injured, the media and everyone questioned how important Durant is to the Warriors and whether they are better without him. I think the Warriors are a championship-caliber team without Durant because they have won without him but Durant has never won without the Warriors. This would be a perfect opportunity for Kevin to showcase his importance and it would only increase his value in free agency even though he is guaranteed to get max anywhere he goes. The Raptors will win the NBA championship this year even if Durant did return and try to play the hero role. So doing a simple cost benefit analysis, Durant has only much to gain if he sits out. Kawhi learned that the hard way when he returned from an injury in the 2017 playoffs just to further injure himself.
