During the height of the war on drugs, Nafeesah Goldsmith’s home was raided by police. She was twelve at the time. They found less than two ounces of marijuana, and her mom was convicted on drug charges. Now that recreational marijuana is legal in New Jersey, Goldsmith fights for reparations for families damaged by the policy’s heavy policing in communities of color.

  1. So when are black American's going to pay white American's reparations for all of us that were killed in the civil war that gave them freedom from slavery

  2. Growing up dealing with this type or racist and ineffective policing, I and many in my community have grown to hate police with a passion. They never have policed white communities the way they police those of color. These reparations should be granted with no issues, let’s correct passed wrongs, start healing and never make those mistakes again. This country has ruined millions of lives over BS.

  3. America is its own worst enemy. As an outsider I find its inflated sensation of social justice, obsession with race, professional victim mentality, and lack of moral relativism hilariously stupid. The woman in this video is stupid. Race baiting media is also stupid. Wasting all this time and energy on utter nonsense. That's why you lost to China!

  4. I agree with ending the war on drugs, but going by that logic there would astonomical amounts of money to be paid to "survivors of alcohol prohibition. I think my grand pappi got busted a few times for running Moonshine back in the day 🤣🤣

  5. Commit a crime and you do the time sorry. It's legit stated in law that you can't remove past infractions if you at the time committed a crime.

  6. It’s crazy my aunt would tell me stories may she Rest In Peace 🙏🏾🙏🏾 she was a 103 when she passed. She would talk about when the heroin hit the streets New York / Harlem and how her friends and others in the community were bearing there children ,she was going to a funeral every other day.. and how that went on for a while , they literally were bearing there Black and brown children they were dropping like flies. So sad how they did that to the black an Brown community’s 💔 Black and brown Americans need reparations .

  7. These people deserve nothing other than to petition to have their record be sealed. They made a choice to break the law and they were caught so they should not be entitled to a dime.

  8. Who do we hold accountable for telling the entire country marijuana is probably the most dangerous drug ever who is to be held accountable for upholding those lies horse telling those lies to the American people

  9. completely legalized marijuana should have for everybody something that isn't illegal 😍🤩🥰🥳

  10. @nbcnews you are being very incompetent and irresponsible by putting such ideas out there. It s an unfortunate event but the parents were the culprits. I m surprised to see how little you take the effect of deregulating drugs. Haven t you seen what opium addiction years back used to do to the asian societies? There s a reason they acted on it. Any type of drug dependance is a dangerous course to weaken your society. Be more responsible and encourage the population to become more mature and stop self damage with drug use.

  11. Which family in Mexico hasn’t been harmed during the war on drugs??? Countless people have died

  12. This War on Drugs has been proven to have been a failure. All the years police incarcerated poor and nonviolent offenders en mass for substance abuse resulted in the devastation of communities of color.
