Maybe she didn't get casted for her race for representation because if it were like that, they can cast any crack-head with a scratchy voice and enough talent as a box of nails as long as they're not Caucasian for "representation". I'm excited for Halle and Chloe if she's in it too. I think they'll inspire all children not of her skin but the princess like character she'll brings.

    Don't support the movie if you don't like their decisions. The Little Mermaid of the 70's will always be a classic and the new one will entertain me hopefully of it's many talents.

    I think Ariel should be played by a white Woman with red Hair and not by a black Woman with black Hair. Now am I a racist?
    If Pocahontas from Disney comes live-action and is cast by a white woman with blonde hair, would that be ok? The outcry would be huge !! They're all racist, aren't they?

31. All black people should keep their expectations low for this movie and save their money. Racial war propaganda is a twenty- four job and it's not taking a holiday anytime soon. Be prepared for the word dark to be used negatively and light to be used positively. Be prepared for dysfunctional black interactions and the good white person to appear. 37. I don't have a problem with the little mermaid being black BUT it's so clear that Disney cast her for an agenda. It would be interesting to see the casting call for this – was it for black casting only or did the best person get the job? Awful to say but I guess we will never know.

People have to stop complaining, what matters in Ariel is not her being a white girl, what matters in Ariel is being a girl who sings in a beautiful way. And other mermaids (unfortunately) do not exist, they are fictional characters who can have any color.

I just think that Halle would have been a perfect fit for a live action version of The Princess and the Frog, or even a new black Disney princess.
