Stavik, who was from a rural town in Washington, was missing for three days before her body was found. Authorities wouldn’t have their main suspect until 28 years later.

  1. I went to school with Mandy stavick. We spoke on a few occasions, she was several years younger than me. I graduated in 1986. Her disappearance and death hit us all very hard. This is also something that has troubled me for years and that is who took her life. It also has sparked an interest in missing persons.. my own daughter (Kaitlyn) was abducted in 2012 by a family member. I didn't see her for 4 and a half years. I was denied contact by this person. She also went missing in lynden in 2006. Lynden christian school drama club helped search for her as well as many other lynden residents. Thankfully we found her beside the nooksack river with her pony. I am still concerned about this because it was a very difficult adventure for her to make on her own and I and my father believe someone else was with her. My father and a lynden police officer found her on a tip from a neighbor. My father at the time said someone else was there ..he didn't explain, he was very upset. I believe him to be right. It was treated as a lost child case. She was found that night. It is a cosed case but I am not able to let it rest because of circumstances still controlling our family. In 2012 she was listed as missing by the national missing and exploited childrens hotline. Whatcom county denied us aan amber alert on several occasions when I was able to obtain information on her whereabouts. She was hidden and kept from seeing me by certain "mom's" in van zandt.
Terri Kurtz and Shelly of Vanzandt equestrian center. This control was just a part of it and it also involved the equine community in whatcom county. There are answers I need and I also want charges on these women and the family members involved. It has been years and yes she in whatcom county but the estrangement is obvious..I know this has happened with other youth in our county by these same women. I am still seeking justice..
I want answers also..I'm thankful for mandies family having closure now and I hope for their healing emotionally too.

Ours is still an ongoing situation. The worry and fear is not anything anyone wants to deal with. My youngest daughter missed out on having a safe mom to care for her because of the control of others..she was taken advantage of and still is being trafficked. That is a secret problem in our community. These women refused to acknowledge me as a parent and the situation of her dad abducting her. They took advantage of her circumstances.
Her father, he had a no visitation, no contact order by a guardian ad litem investigation in whatcom county. This was ignored by whatcom county sheriff's department.

  2. Why is the efficiency of American police so low?? Didn't even check the DNA of all the residents attached to the crime scene??? Stupid!!!!

  3. I bet you always put the ending with another name for us to go throught your page but the only thing that it's doing it's just make us think that oh it's ABC probably they're fishing for views BYE.
And of course you have to fish for views BUT you could have a real fan base IF YOU STOP DOING THIIIIIIIIISSSSSS

  4. Gotta be one the most pathetic sentences in the nation’s history.
    27 years????????????
First degree murder and first degree rape. What’s more scary is how most the comments here don’t even mention this part as if it’s totally cool the guy gets 27 years.

  5. Mandy had a genuinely heartwarming smile. I was so moved watching Mandy's mother reflect on 48 Hours this weekend, proudly yet wistfully, that she "was just an ordinary person; I don't know how I managed to have that child."

  6. This happened the year I was born in 1989 and I’m so glad he was caught… detectives definitely kept their word and continued to investigate.

  7. Pretty obvious that it was a guy from school and the neighborhood. They should have made actions since then. How can a case get cold for 30 years and let that bastard to even have his own family abusing his wife

  8. Really!!anyone from this state knows it was a local! 28 yrs of unneeded horror! You must know the area she was found! Sorry whatcom county but shoddy canvassing caused yrs of a homicidal rapist murderer on the loose in our state! My God. May Bass grab his ankles daily! RIP mandy
