Breaking down the ‘downward departure’ in Kim Potter’s sentencing

6. I expected her to get 5 years at most, but to see that she received 2 years, it's just shocking. I don't think Daunte should have tried to take off and flee. That was just plain wrong. But an officer with that much time on the force that doesn't remember which item is on her belt, doesn't make it right either. 13. This judge cried more for Kim Potter than she did for the family of the dead teen. This is the Latasha Harlins case and sentencing all over again. Shot and killed over an orange juice. That judge gave zero time to the Korean store owner that was found guilty on all charges

14. People don't seem to realize that Mr Wright would have been driving a 3,000-pound bullet! He would have been speeding and running stop lights, stop signs, passing in no passing zones, endangering EVERYONE in his way. His car becomes a DEADLY WEAPON at that point and deadly force to stop said weapon should be authorized. Officer Potter put her life on the line for 26 years!!! She is not a criminal! Mr. Wright however WAS a criminal and he put his own life in jeopardy, along with the lives of the officers trying to arrest him and keep him from driving off. They PROTECTED the community from a deadly threat! She shouldn't spend a single day in jail.

18. I can't understand how so many people don't hold the young man accountable for his actions. Had he behaved himself he would have been home in time for dinner but now he is dead because he showed his ass. The incompetent cop made a tragic mistake but it was a mistake. Shame his parents didn't teach him how to act when pulled over by police. His complete lack of respect for him killed. It's all on camera.

    Look for sentencing disparities.
    The judge just may need to be removed from the bench.
    Look at her past judgements on every case she's handled.
    Remove her from the bench if things are amiss.

28. F&CK Duante Wright. Officer Potter did not mean to kill the little POS, but she did, and did society a favor. Let the worms choke on his foul worthless remains. His POS mother has a lot to say about the criminal she raised and did nothing to stop his doings. So F her too!
