5. There is a reason why they are not playing and its not because of the virus people. Pure politics!

6. The purpose of colleges and universities is to educate, inform and conduct research. Big-time college athletics IS a huge distraction, a HUGE money pit–paid for by student fees and encourages the party culture. Also, look at how few Division 1 scholarship athletes major in something challenging, such as engineering (not engineering technology), mathematics, a hard science, accounting or another major known to take lots of effort. How many of them take 'gut' classes and just scrape by?

   If you want to have big-time college athletics, let's create sports academies. They can be at major college campuses. The sports academies can issue degrees. However, it will always be clear that the degree is from a sports academy, not the elite academic institution it shares space with. For example, athletes would not be admitted to Harvard but to the Sports Academy at Harvard University. If they wanted a real Harvard, Michigan, Duke, Stanford, Columbia, etc. degree, they would have to apply to these schools AND athletic prowess will not be taken into consideration. That will free-up some Special Admit seats, placing them back into the Competitive Admission pool. At Harvard, only 1/3 of the undergraduate seats are Competitive Admission; 2/3 are Special Admission.
