#Smartphone #Photography #Explained
This video is pretty informative with clarity, nice job Android Authority!
2017: Galaxy S8 – My phone have a better camera!
2021: Galaxy S21 – My camera have a phone now!
They should just make the whole phone thicker to eliminate the camera bump, the camera bump is much worse than a thicker phone in my opinion. They could utilise the extra space for a bigger battery as well.
2:08 now that we understand basics…
Me: emmm, not really… While you explain good average person can't learn photography basics in less that 2 min 🙂
'Cos cameras are now amazingly good, ….NEXT !!
I love large camera bumps.
in the next 5-10 years, maybe we can use the camera bump as the phone stand due to it's size lol
At this point they might as well make the camera like the old Samsung memoir.
Why camera bumps are getting bigger?
Bit of a silly question. More pixels, bigger sensors, better OIS = bigger camera bump. 🙄
It also greatly depends on the camera module, some manufacturers have a larger camera module that takes 1/8th of the space, while some, have a very small camera module to make room for the bigger battery. Design factors have to be included too like a headphone jack and NFC /wireless coil with linear motor vibration etc.
YUGE
my first 2 smart phones had a big bump(nokia n97 and n8) and i was quite fine with that.
I think zenfone zoom did the periscope long before p30 pro
Camera bumps are stupid. You need more space for the lens then give the phone more space for battery etc and make the back flat.
you should have compared them to some DSLR's focal lengths

The one and only reason: maximum profit
To me the s10 was as big of a bump that I want. It's just getting stupid now and I won't be upgrading just for a camera.
Crap
They should increase the thickness of phones to fill it out with one giant lens assembly with mirrors like a true DSLR.
Sorry but there's no excuse for camera bumps. Because, what's stopping the manufacturer from filling the rest of the phone out to make it flush with the bump and this removing the "bump". The extra space can be used for more battery, more memory or anything else. Heck, even if they used it for nothing useful, the benefit of having a phone with a flat back will be awesome. No more rocking phones when on a desk.
I don't mind a thicker phone with bigger battery and no bump.
It's time to raise the standard of smartphone thickness so it will be the same thick as camera module. With thicker body = More battery + Headphone jack resurrection
Just make the phone thiccccc, bigger battery, no camera bump
Ok.. man this is explained so well… awesome work Ryan… animations could be little better but the information is just wow…. thanks
"Is that camera bump in your pocket, or are you just glad to see me?"
To me: as a photographer who uses mostly a dedicated camera (cause my Xiaomi Pocophone F1 8s absolutely shit), I don't care (also because my phone sits in a rubber case). I'd be absolutely fine with a 1cm thick phone which offers room for a good camera (I don't need 3, 4 or more lenses) and a huge battery (4,000 – 6,000 mAh). Making a smartphone as thin as possible (with disadvantages) but have a huge camera bump sticking out (which makes the phone wobbly on a flat surface) is pure nonsense.
Nokia pureview had like 4 cameras with no camera bump, now what is that all about ????
Quite confusing
Ohne das Neue Wissen ist Heilung/Ganzwerdung nicht möglich. ↬ wir-kl-ich-keit de <3
but why not just make the phone thicker? it could make the battery life better and will still look very nice and seamless.
Its just mysterious why Manufacturer put such big and many expensive Cam-sensors in a phone at the expense of a apropriate Lens.
Good old Nokia 1020 got me great Macro Bokeh with Zeiss Lens. It has to be thick to produce good Macroshots with a big sensor.
Sadly nobody buys something like a Panasonic CM1 Smartphone, thats why i am still on two phones. Its not cost effective to produce something like this.
Its not needed to be thick cuz look at Pixel its top 3 best cameras but bumpless
Thanks for the concise explanation.
I would be perfectly fine with a thicker phone if it meant better camera and/or battery.
The question is how do I get a smartphone without cameras?
Good video
Why camera Bump getting worst 🙄
Since "under-display camera" solution will be the new trend on smartphone industry, how about they will tuck it in the upper bezel of the phone? Like they will increase the bezel on the upper part.
Very informative, I thought the camera bump was a random thing OEM added
While the S21 Ultra already have a sizeable battery, I wouldn't mind more to hide the hump.

I remember when people were complaining about the camera bumps. That is when phones were getting rid of the bumps. Just like they had complained about the thickness of the phone. Then all of a sudden camera bumps are back. I never minded the camera bump as long as the camera is good. Just like I rather them make the phone a little thicker if that means 5 thousand milliamp or bigger battery. It's funny how things change. Maybe in a few years, people will start wanting no camera bump again.
Anytime I hear this guy's voice, I get bored of the video. No offense.
