Phil takes a quick look at the new Nexus wireless charger for 2013. It works with the Nexus 4, Nexus 5 and Nexus 7, sports a tacky base and will magnetically hold the Nexus 5 in place. It comes in a nice blue box, and it is nicely displayed as soon as you open it up. You’ll find a quick start guide, warranty information, removable plug, and MicroUsb charge cable. You plug into the back of the Nexus charger, and then just put your phone on the charger. Older phones will slide around a bit, but the Nexus 5 will connect magnetically.

  1. I know this is an old video and the Nexus 6 has a curved back, but I wonder if it would work. Though, admittedly, I don't know if the Nexus 6 can charge wirelessly.

  2. Hello Android Central 🙂
could you please add an disassembly video of the new nexus 5 charger ?
From the old (the round one) you´ll find a lot of disassembly pics and much more in the internet. But not from this new wireless charger.
Many people wants to mount this in her car, because the magnets are strong enough to hold the device. But to mount this charger with screws or something we ALL need an disassembly video, because the charger looks like a single part ….
…there must be a possibility to open this charger – but how ? 🙂

I would be very grateful 🙂

  3. Let's ask about the downside (if any)…

How long does it take to charge (from flat battery) compared to the standard (wired) charger?
How much additional power (if any) does it use charging over the standard charger?
Does it still use power when it is ON and there's no device sitting on it?

Otherwise, it looks a great idea, well thought out, if it's ecologically sound.

Wonder if the next Nexus 7 will be able to utilise it?

  4. How strong is the magnet in this charger. i saw you swing your phone. What about the nexus 7!? I have a project and i would like to see exactly how strong it is.

  5. I've got a Nexus 5 with a Spigen neo hybrid case. The nfc works when I have the case on, so am I right in assuming that the wireless charging will work as well?

  6. Not as thin as my Lumia 920's wireless charger (which the Nexus 5 of course works with), but cool nonetheless.

  7. When the video first started and I heard the weeeeee, I pressed pause, looked to see if I had clicked on the right video and once realizing that I had, I started laughing lol. Good one Phil.

  8. Has anyone had any overheating problems with this charger and a Nexus 4? Because I tried the LG wireless charger (since the Nexus 4 is made by LG), and when I started charging my N4 the temp shot up to about 115 degrees F. For fear of melting my screen protector off I stopped it and returned the charger. Maybe this one works better??

  9. It doesn't look like it starts charging when he puts it on there. Or at least the Nexus 4 will light up momentarily when you put it on the charging orb. Well, theoretically anyway… the Nexus 4 charging orb was a HUGE ass burger with a side order of fries, which only worked when it wanted to. Wonder if this is any better?
