The Samsung Gear VR is an interesting piece of equipment, to say the least.

Oh. I thought it was something else. No wonder it's $99
I think this is going to mess up peoples vision.
So is the GEAR VR only works with Samsung note 4 or can it work with other kind of phone?
Yea I already have the Rift DK2 and it's not as great as I thought it was. I also have the Durovis Dive with an Xperia Z1 and it is also just meh. I don't want a fancy ass $200 headset just to have to buy a $700?+ giant Note 4 for simple gaming…For the idiots saying people will call you and interrupt the game, there is a feature we use called AIRPLANE MODE….Welcome to the future.ÂÂÂ
So it's a plastic Google Cardboard with a USB touchpad and back button instead of a click magnet.
Underrated device. I want this.
I just recieved my note 4 and can't wait to pair it with this!
Looks interesting…But I'll wait for Oculus and Morpheus
Wait, so you can't wear it over glasses?… Looks like I'm not gonna get it.
yay a phone holder
Seems like somebody doesn't like the VR. For me this would be ideal, I hate being interrupted while I'm watching a film so don't really answer my phone, if its that important they will call me on the landline. Put your feet up in the evening and take in a bit of VR, who cares if you can't take calls while you are wearing it. Anyway who is going to have this on all day? So in reality the amount of times your phone will ring while wearing it is probably not going to be a lot but if you are that socially minded and on your phone all the time then it probably isn't for you. Horses for courses, this would be fine for me but if it isn't for you then it doesn't make it a bad device. Its the first model so one can assume that as phone specs get better across Samsung range then we will see headsets for varying models assuming the specs are there, I would like to think so anyway.
why are people so pessimistic about this? well you also get a great phone, remember that this VR headset is optional
considering that other phones can't/don't have this. .
This is only somewhat good for those who already have the Samsung Galaxy phone
what about movies completely in 360 degrees 3D?
It's a great product, but how can you explain what's it's like in the game if we cant see what it's like?
Take a rest Josh, your looking sad..
I can't wait to watch porn on this
Ok I'm actually lost what does it actually do and how can it help me with everyday life or is this just for fun like a nice little gadget to have if I'm going to pay for something I would like to know what I'm paying for
Bro, we don't care about the device. We want to hear about the EXPERIENCE! How was the head tracking? Much latency? Feel dizzy afterwards? Etc…
Can you watch your own HD movies on it ?
Wow wonder what the retail on this is gonna be, sorta stupid if it isn't compatible with S5
Now all of a sudden I want one. Wtg Samsung
wow…..thats cool…
or make a google cardboard.
I think one of the most exciting aspects in the evolution of VR into a mobile capacity such as this device, is the possibility of Augmented Reality. When the processing power of mobile phones is strong enough and we have low latency cameras on the front of the mobile device, imagine walking down the street with a 3D Virtual HUD surrounding what you would otherwise see in your surroundings without the headset on. Maybe the Iron man demo, is a good look into the future of where Samsung + Oculus are trying to evolve. I think there's legs on this concept, because ultimately, technology evolves to aid us in our everyday lives.
I have to say, this is a very bold move by Samsung, however in the end, I cannot see it shooting off.
Just considering what this is – a small headset that attaches to your Note 4 in order to provide a vr experience – , the product (in my eyes) seems like more or a gimmick than anything.
When you consider the other clear (albeit more expensive) option, the Oculus Rift, which will be running fully blown space simulators such as Star Citizen and Elite : Dangerous, from a Pc which is immensely more powerful than your smartphone, why would a consumer shoot for the Samsung device, which runs off your Note 4, a mobile device, which does not offer the head tracking software of the oculus, the positional tracking, nor (most likely) the same range of games that the oculus has, instead of the oculus for a couple hundred more?
The only place the Samsung device is superior is in the screen resolution, and Oculus could easily upgrade if need be.
The simple conclusion is that this is aimed at the casual person who would like to experience VR, perhaps one who doesn't own a decent PC, already owns a note 4 and doesn't want to spend the extra for the Oculus. Hardcore gamers clearly isnt what this product is aimed at.
This is just my opinion, feel free to discuss, or flame me.

The Iron Man shell was nice!
Do you think it would be available for Galaxy S5?
@Android Authority Android Does the Galaxy Edge fit in it as well? No one seems to have a definitive answer.
its really good but a company needs to make one thats compatible with different types of smartphone only high end flagships though, its a big hair style killer though so probably best used after work
can you use note edge?
So cool
Google Cardboard = Free This = $200 #Logic?
