I don't know, i also thought EMUI was ungly at first. I mean it still kinda is. But after a year on it i can honestly say that it simply gets stuff done! Not the prettiest but very robust on my daily usage. It just works.

emui sux
Was a little nervous changing from HTC after years … But old phone didn't survive and there was no money to spend 😇 heard bad things like the Speaker is crap and so… Well it isn't as good as on an HTC but it's okay… And the UI?! Actually loving it also if stock Android is unbeatable… So I'm happy with the change

You know nothing Android Snow. C'mon!! When I apply any theme the whole UI changes. Furthermore, there's an app on the play store called "EMUI theme editor" that allows you to even edit the theme itself.
I love the Huawei P9 and the EMUI. Easy to use and looks good!
Nova launcher is the answer or the latest Nexus launcher.
It does have a theme store! And it's better than Samsung's theme store and you can make themes yourself!
In my p7 -l12 with EMUI 3.1 i can't see the notifications in my lock screen, really ennoying.
