Our own Mark Guim sits down with HTC’s Jeff Gordon to take a look at the Harman/Kardan edition of the HTC One M8, announced as a Sprint exclusive.

It’s the same M8 we’ve been using for a month or so no, only in a new color and with some special sauce from Harman/Kardan on board. It’ll be available online on May 2, and in Sprint stores on May 9.

  1. Happy I got this one its the everything I wanted in a phone audio audio audio perfect I get goosebumps listening to music and watching movies with the front speaker is amazing it gives you this nice affect, let's say a car speeds from one end of the screen to the other, they the sound glides from one speaker to the other you notice. The color couldn't ask for a better looking phone no sprint logo on it. And that not even scratching the surface of how great it is

  2. You know I was just about to get the S5, and then this sexy beast of a phone comes out… SOO happy to see HTC make one smart decision and ditch the kiddy shit beats in favor of a legit brand like harmon kardon. And that black and gold finish…

  3. thanks HTC for fking over us early adopters.. o and fk Sprint for sh2tty data network. I heard now Sprint is charging $20 for smartphone users instead of $10? correct me if I'm wrong… why charge to use a smartphone?

  4. Lot of misinformation pitched here. Harmon Kardan MAY be able to put a higher end decoder into streaming, low quality audio but it will not be CD quality and it will not be the way the artist intended you to hear the music. That musical information has been lost via encoding and will not be recovered after the fact.

Most times the extra software layer adds things like compression, reverb, spacialization effects, limiting, etc. and any smartphone user can grab an app that will add similar gimmicks to alter the way their music sounds.

All Snapdragon 800+ (including Note 3, S5, Nexus 5, etc.) have the capability of playing back 192khz 24bit audio. The end user would have to download ultra high res audio from a hi-fi site and store it on the device for playback through a digital to analog component that probably costs less than $1 and will not have the specs needed to restore that high-resolution digital file into a high-resolution analog signal for you to listen to. It will be lost. H+K did NOT add any modification to the phone hardware, and only audiophiles will actually download and play back ultra-high res audio. The actual streaming and locally stored audio that 99% of users will be playing on this phone will take no advantage of this capability. I don't know why it was mentioned at all.

This is not a music experience being pitched by Sprint. The biggest change to music most people will experience and appreciate is the set of H+K buds instead of typical $2 earbuds. The rest is marketing, fashion (hey the phone looks nice!) and a lot of jargon being thrown around to impress customers who don't know they are being bamboozled.

  5. The amount of bullshit marketing in this video is just mind baffling. It's no wonder people are still so stupid these days.

  6. If you guys want the Harman-Kardon, you can go to the xda forums but you must have your phone rooted and S-off. THis is also on that site and a tutorial how to root and s-off it. It can be installed on any phone be it US or European or Aisan versions.Verizon version has to have a modded settings apk but its on xda forums. Go there if  you want it.

  7. I have the HTC one m8 so If this software is any good you can always root . There will probably be a root for this new enhancements right ?

  8. I have the gold m8 on AT&T if this was available I would've probably gone for it. I love the color scheme and the earphones look great. So sexy.

  9. Omg I'm sooooooooo glad I have sprint I was originally gonna get the note 3 but I'm gonna get this beast in July now. Loving the color scheme also!!!!!
