Following a successful Kickstarter campaign, Chameleon released its widget-heavy launcher for Android last week. The unified look and feel of the widgets make for a great show, and the context-based triggers for hom screen launches are cool, but how easy is it to get along with most of your apps tucked away in a dock?
nice thanks
I dont get why it needed a Kickstarter and charge a very spencive price with no limited but free version
You should seriously check out the newest update of this launcher!! You can tell that the developer has been paying attention to our reviews and so there is so much more functionality than before. Ex: Adding apps to home-screen, using android widgets as apposed to Chameleons, and ability to add folders!! Its also has a major improvement on the speed. Before I would always get frustrated as to how the launcher lags so much but now scrolling is like a breeze and have no issues. Please get
-Nexus 7
Wish you could put apps on the homescreen other than that great launcher
TSF launcher is far better than this one.
love the launcher 😀
No, nexus 7.
What tablet is used here?
looks nice. great for widget based users, but with so few widgets, might not be the greatest launcher.
Cool, but not even close to worth $10 (relatively speaking based on other options).
Is that a nexus
I agree with Clay Mann. You essentially pay 10 bucks to lose access to the 1000s of great widgets out there already and have them replaced by less than 10, some of which don't even work (like the Gmail one).
That's a good point, Just on more reason not to get behind this.
I didn't say you couldn't add as many apps as you want, I said it doesn't work. In portrait mode having 50 apps in one line where you can only see 5, that doesn't work for me. You think the answer to getting better gadgets is to put up a pay wall, hand over control to a commercial company and fragment the market, that's just silly. There are great gadgets for android and many many terrible ones. Only time is needed to correct that. The vast majority of developers will never go near this.
I think setting it at $10 with very few features. It is a hard sell. As a customer, you just can't use the ideology of "don't worry they will update it." What if they never update it again? Right now I can emulate all those features with free apps.
You can actually put as many apps in that "one line bar" as you want.
It works in both portrait and landscape.
Android's current widget system is abysmal. They are not coherent and the styling of each is different giving a very cluttered experience. There are already a lot of developers on board developing widgets for chameleon which means they are showing more interest in this launcher than other ones.
I quite like it and so do many others so I wouldn't call it a bad UI.
So basically all your "desktop" space is for widgets and you get a one line bar for all your apps which only works in landscape, unless you enjoy whizzing along a line of icons constantly to choose. And as the whole thing is based on gadgets, now developers have to make them for this instead of the already well established gadget system android has? Sorry, I wouldn't use this for free, what a shame such obvious talent is going to waste developing such a bad UI
iOS can't do this XD
They really need MORE WIDGETS! I would use this as my daily driver, but not enough widgets yet. Also it would be great if it allowed me to use widgets for applications I already have installed as opposed to sending me to the web.
goddamnit, I hate when YouTube is slow as shit
Wow, I saw the beta of Chameleon a few month ago and it was heavly lagging. Now its just buttery smooth!!! Dont know if its because of Nexus 7, or they have improve alot! Probably both 🙂
btw sry for my english peps
maybe someday…
go launcher is better. but this is a really great idea, and i think it will eventually be a hell of alot better then any other launcher for tablets
