  1. a bigger sensor itself is NOT improving lowlight. Pretty much ALL midrange phones with 1/2" 48MP sensors proof that.
You gain nothing from it if you increase the sensor size but than throw an even bigger amount of pixels on it. The pixel size – that's what's important – not the raw sensor size. Big DSLRs are so good and still way better than phones because the individual pixels are mostly like 10-20 times bigger compared to smartphones, not just because the sensor is bigger.

  2. As Galaxy S20 Ultra user I can name two real flaws of this camera. Well, not exactly a flaws but an areas in which it didn’t perform well. 1) close photo of an object – part of the object will be out of focus. The save here is zoom, but only in good light. Second is 3x zoom. Picture is wery blurry no matter the light conditions. There is no workaround for that. You have to use 4x or higher zoom to get great pictures. But, apart from that the camera is amazing. It gives so much new ways to take great shots! I’m absolutely in love with that thing!

  3. Samsung was really on to something with the variable aperture. Honestly the S20 ultra is the phone that needed it most. Like you said, it needs to make a return!

  4. My #pixel3a is just fine with 12mp camera and more than enough for great photos in all lighting conditions! If One wide-angle camera is added in upcoming pixel devices then it will be like cherry on top of an already awesome cake! 😃

  5. Samsung needs to focus on software right now, they need to change the Plane of focus to eliminate fringing at close subjects, autofocus issues, and should work more on their freaking night mode! I mean seriously 1/1.33 inches , the amount of light it can capture is crazy but still loses to the old 1/2.55 inch sensor of the pixel 4 XL

  6. As long as they can keep fitting bigger sensors in phones only 8-9mm thick, then I'm all for it. Can't wait until an OEM engineers a 1-inch sensor in a smartphone. Now if they can also add much higher quality glass for the lenses, then it'd be something special.

  7. For one, large sensors are great for dynamic range and low light but that's what computational photography has been able to keep up with. Large sensors will be only as good as good software. Now even on dedicated cameras Color science is becoming the best thing for photography. Video now is a different story for larger sensors on phones.
