We take a quick look at a simple way for rooted users to change from the phone styled home screen and UI on the Nexus 7, to that more often found on larger tablets.

It doesn't work on android 4.3
Turn the gay music off next time
178 dpi is confirmed working with no compatibility issues
This doesn't seem to work on 4.2.2
I got my samsung galaxy tab 2 7inch.
Phone UI really fits good with 7 inch tablets, but when it comes to 10 inch, tablet for sure.
*but
I don't believe so nut I would recommend rooting anyway it opens you device up to all sorts of possibilities XD
Im 14 is there anyway of doing this without root???
@exeouwl Yeah me too! Loved this sooo much! Just finished watching > bit.ly/RooCgY?=sfagxw
I prefer the original look.
Is there a potential way to do this WITHOUT root. I myself have no experience rooting and wouldn't like to do any rooting, as my PC is very outdated, and I fear it wouldn't work.
does this affect the "buttery" experience ???
Yeah, most people are right about the compatibility with a lot of market apps once the DPI is changed. I may give it a try if I find it compelling. But, I'll probably wait for a great rom to come out for this device to do any rooting.
You lose the dock and the market issues are not even worth doing it. #vanilla
awesome , worked great. I have it at 170, so it seems a tad bit small, I set font to huge and its still a bit too small for me, may try 175
running mine at 175 its not perfect but a little easier to use.
Only, google intended for it's users to do whatever they wanted with the device. That's the joy of their "nexus" brand devices.
BRILLIANT!
got 30 seconds in then stopped because of the bloody annoying music.
Appreciate the information presented in the video. Thanks. I echo some of the other comments regarding video quality and sound. Android Central is the premier android destination on the web and you should start acting like it. Presenters shouldn't sound like they're 20 feet away from the camera. Real microphones should be mandatory. Also, tone down the background music so that we can barely hear it. We're here for the information, not background beats.
So you don't root or put custom ROM?
Changing the DPI messes with the Play Store and some apps. Too bad that wasnt noted
Awesome if yu have the n7 get it rooted and do this same exact method then you will experience a tablet how it should.. Thanks androidcentrel
aint gonna lie. the quality of androidcentral's videos are pretty crappy.
buy a real mic and turn the background music down. yall can do better
Ehh, I'd rather not mess with it and leave it the way google intended.
Now virtually all market apps won't be compatible with your device. Thanks for mentioning that.
Rom toolbox is a great app.
It was just a few steps in ROM Toolbox.. you could've followed the actual visuals and not bitched about the music lol. but good video! the Nexus 7 looks very good!
Wow edit this video and turn off the music!
This is the way the tablet should have shipped in my opinion. Thanks
You are very smart. Have the music loud while you speak. I didn't even both to watch the entire video.
I really like the way this looks on the nexus 7.
yes
just a tip… speak louder or increase the volume of your voice, i can hear the music clearer than your voice =/
So from my understanding there still is Honeycomb/ICS look on the tablet but Google decided to go with the phone look…
I prefer this.
PVP SAAAN!
