My parents had such a brass one in front of our open fireplace in the Netherlands in the sixties. I don't know if it was older/antique as I grew up with it since birth. At that time many casts owners went broke and I remember going to these auctions with my dad since age three. This prevents toddlers from getting harmed as well as jumping sparks from burning/harming persons AND mainly the wooden (or nowadays carpet) floor in front of the fireplace. A house is set on fire so fast. You can slide in only one side to poke around or add further logs. I have also seen many in the U.K., and people still love to buy them. I would look up how much they cost new and certainly sell it with the set of pokers. It's supposed to show a peacock. Kind Regards from Switzerland, Esther
