Bowtie boy Ryan’s got a big play for using big displacement to make big power for his entry in our first MuscleTrux series match up. Kevin’s not allowed in the shop as Ryan’s adding new heads, a new valve train, a pro-flo EFI throttle body, and intake to his 454 to wake up the potential in this big V-8.

Follow the match up in the MuscleTrux Wars playlist:

  1. This is how I know these guys are parts changers NOBODY calls the front clip the "Dog House" on older Chevy trucks there used to be a Bolt in Dog house that covered the Transmission and back of the engine // the core support and fenders are just the front clip …OK Say "Front Clip"

  2. I can respect what they were doing for the show, but the moment they revealed their cylinder head and camshaft choices but choosing to retain the low-squeeze slugs, I knew they were throwing away power. Even a cheaper set of flat-top pistons would have brought compression up to at least 9:5-10:1 and taken advantage of the heads&cam….I recall Hot Rod Magazine running an article on cylinder heads designed by Jim Feuling that generated far better HP&torque numbers even with the stock pistons…..

  3. Installing the camshaft without a degree wheel?
Only to hear preload is set with 3/4 of a turn!
Followed by hearing OEM oil pump to distribute synthetic oil thru bearing clearances intended for slight thicker than water oil!!
No doubt, you’re right about it picking up some extra power and ten different answers!
Plus, as additional bonus considering how you Tennessee fellers pussy foot the loud pedal there is no fear of destruction! 😂
    I’m just busting balls! We’ll sort of!😎
    Great job as usual fellers

  4. GM was at the height of neutering otherwise strong engines in 1990! Other than the displacement, GM choked off the 454 in the name of mileage and emissions. They never stopped to think that anyone wanting a 454 pretty much accepting of bad mileage.

  5. I mean I like this show for the most part…but they talk like there gonna take stock trucks with stock equipment for the most part and see what they can do….but then they throw like 10-20k into them and act like the just threw a few bolt ons….

  6. These guys gotta understand it revs low because of the parts on it when u start changing intake manifold that have shorter intake runners bigger cam etc it'll rev quite high seen a lot of 454s rev past 7000 rpm with the right parts
