This is a quick tip response to my disc brake video. A very observant viewer mentioned this important fact that I forgot to put into the original video so I will correct that here. Wheel torque probably accounts for at least some percentage of persistent brake vibrations.

  1. I was curious about how you determine if you have the nuts tight enough when using an impact wrench. I came across this info.

    "Not meant for tightening purposes:

    Impact wrench helps speed up the process of loosening or removing the nuts/ bolts, whereas a torque wrench is meant for tightening the fixings. Most people are not aware of this fact."

  2. I put four new tires on at a local Jack Williams shop. They obviously didn’t correctly use a digital torque on the installation as my right rear tire fell off while driving at 45 mph. Luckily, my car didn’t tip and I was able to control my car directly onto a parking lot that was at a 50* angle to my left. Wonderful feeling to see your tire passing you on your right. No one was hurt thankfully but I was pretty shaken up as you can imagine.

  3. I feel there should be more twisting of the torque wrench before hearing the click. I would assume by watching this video that the wheels are over torqued

  4. My car is ten years old, and also requires 80ft-lbs of torque per lug. At that age, and 75,000 miles, is it okay to overtorque it slightly – 81-82ft-lbs – to make sure they're tight enough?

  5. Buddy of mine was killed instantly by a runaway wheel the driver of the car was charged with secondary man slaughter and gross management of a motor vehicle.

  6. I love these matter of factly explanations to a torque wrench. None of which go into how the wrench works or even the idea, if you're doing that many tires, or just constantly going off and on with the wheels. You're probably goin to have a set of torque sticks to make things go faster. But hey, Never turned a wrench in my life. Just like more than half the experts in the comments hahahaha

  7. Can over torquing cause a lug nut to cease up and be hard to remove later? Like for example changing all seasons to winter and vice versa.
