On the same day Jennifer picked up her new Odyssey, the engine seized up on the highway. This is my worst nightmare. After all that work and effort, the exact thing I didn’t want to happen, happened.
So what do you do in this situation? Fix it, which is exactly what I do in this episode. I replace the engine in the 2005 Honda Odyssey as well as fix up a few other minor issues and I get Jennifer back on the road ASAP.
I will be making a separate video tearing down the old engine to see what went wrong. Right now, I need to get Jennifer back on the road.

That was a solid move, very nice.
That sounds just like a spun rod. Unfortunately I've had a few.
Fif? Eric must have watched Chappelle show back in the day, cause there's a sketch on the word 'fif' ðŸ˜ÂÂ
https://youtu.be/HeOVbeh2yr0
I know you're not a body guy but surely you could have scraped off and treated that rust sport over the left rear wheel? Did you change the oil after your long test drive? All in all a great job and very informative video. Well done!
Weird for a Japanese vehicle to have this problem
Who'd a thunk a honda odyssey wouldve blown up ? gees not etcg! should of know better man
that engine sounds way better than the old one.
If only more people were like you. If I lived near you and had something I couldn't fix myself, I would bring my vehicle to you and tip the hell out of the work you would have done.
The benefit of watching your videos is learning and knowing about Honda RIGS their nuances and issues and what-how to deal with it.
One thing I Learned about the Honda’s is the LONG standing (30 years running issue) with the 'Fuel/starter Relay' with the famous BAD Factory solder on them, causing random NON-Start problems.
Remove, then A re-solder on ALL its soldered points and that issue is then fairly easy resolved!
Bossa nova and… Stay dirty!
Big ups for you Eric. More people should emulate this, including me I might add. Thanks for sharing.
You are a very good man sir.
HONDA is JUNK Period! their so called "technology" WON'T LAST and people compare Honda's to Toyotas! No vehicle made by Honda ever live and reliable as any vehicle made by Toyota. Check Whistling Diesel's Hilux and Ridgeline Test! Ridgeline just caught on fire! The donut tire came of the wheel while driving on a dirt road!
@0:52 Eric: That is the sound of something very unhappy!!!
Car: I'm ALIVE I'm ALIVE, don't throw me to the graveyard!!!!
You missed an opportunity to say you've officially been pimped
That van is junk.I am sorry
Eric, aren't the VCM systems on the J35Y1 (2013-2017 Accord automatics) better than the previous generation of the J35's? I've never had any trouble with my '15 Accord, but I still wonder if I should get a VCM bypass installed.
God Bless you, Eric!
Safe journeys to Jennifer and family!
Behind that plate where the engine seal goes there's a o ring
best oil to run in the car is diesel engine oil
god bless you man to being just should have more like u out there
I know when she called you, your heart sank. I just hope Jennifer realizes that you are an upstanding guy and wouldn't have given her a knowingly bad motor. Let's keep our fingers crossed for many years of trouble free driving. Now, lets see what happened to the other motor.
With tuner on, the engine is more responsive; fuel mileage is less; and oil consumption is less. VCM is the culprit for J7 engine failures
Why not go remain engine
Was the first engine still under warranty
Its the squirrrels !!!!
Bless your heart Eric!
35:26 sounds like one cylinder is low on compression is it?
Great to see the repairs being done and hopefully the replacement holds up for many years to come.
To bad all mechanics dont take pride in their work like this
Thanks!
That sucks for Jeniffer and you must feel really bad but I think that VCM thing is the death of these motors might just be a good idea to bypass it
