  1. Hindsight is a beautiful thing and I want to acknowledge that before saying a 2GR engine from a heavy car (Hilux, Estima, etc) should be rebuilt and retuned to fit into a lighter car. High-load, low velocity to low-load, high velocity. Imo. Great video! 😊

  2. Oil was supposed to be added and then had the engine block turned so the fluid would go through engine, and then the car was hard driven immediately, no no even with new cars.

  3. Oil starvation on a 2GR? LOL never happens and never will. 2GR's are supper durable, but a bearing is a thing piece of metal that can wear out, it happens.
    Most of the time if something brakes in a toyota motor its because it simply wore out, you could run it without oil for a day and still probably not brake anything.

  4. My thoughts are that the oiling system wasnt primed properly as the first start had a horrible rattle due to the top end not having oil pressure yet. They had talked about idling it for a while to see if oil pressure would make it go away but by that point it was too late.

  5. In respect those pulley bolts impacting with the Frankenstein engine mount. Given you only found this on the teardown (after the new motor had gone into Brett's car), didn't they do the same thing on the new motor??

  6. The 2gr-fe that came in the Tacoma trucks(oil cooled) had an issue with the rod bearings not seating correctly. Thus resulting in randomly spun bearings. It is a common failure. Just like the water pumps on all 2gr engines are known to fail around 120k miles. The second engine you got was from either a camry or a es350. They are a much stronger, healthier version of the engine. Hope that explains it a bit more.
