In this video I remove the engine and automatic transmission from the 2000 Honda Civic I picked up from Pull-A-Part a couple of weeks back. I’m hoping the transmission is still good. After removing the engine and transmission, I spent some time cleaning the ‘new’ transmission with some degreaser and a pressure washer. Check out the video to see the results.
I hope you find this information useful!

probably wont see this comment ,but its good to see you still going strong eric! i remember when you had that little garage and had to do all your filming by hand lol keep up the great work!!!
Did he say why he dropped it out the bottom instead of pulling it out with the engine hoist???
What happened to Cameraman Brian??
Glad to see more work on regular repairs. Much more fun to watch than bolt on horsepower vids.
Eric how long did it took you to remove the engine and transmission?
I don't like automatics from Honda 🤑🤮
what is the weight of the engine and transmission together?
Was hoping for some 'Stunt Eric' whereby the engine tips over nearly crushing our mechanic in dramatic fashion (ALA 'Mini Series Build' for his son also) but instead we get a look forward to more 'Mechanic Trickery' in the next episode and invited to 'Stay Dirty'…. The first channel I subscribed to and still great entertainment and one way stream of great info…Cheers Bro'….
That transmission fluid did not look promising
Trust me… I are mekanik… Watching this brings back so many fond memories. Awesome video!
Great ðŸ‘ÂÂðŸÂ» to see you back Eric ðŸâ€Â§ðŸâ€Â¨âš™ï¸ÂÂðŸâ€Â©ðŸâ€Â§
Why doesn't he just buy a new civic so he can shutup for 20 years.
I loved the idea you left the “mechanics special†sign in the window during this whole thing 😀ðŸ˜â€Â
Eric, where did you get the blue caps from?
where do you buy the plugs ?? thanks eric. good video as always
I noticed you beat the lower control are to separate the lower ball joint.
Two hundreds comments and no one said " ERIC YOUR DOING IT WRONG " so allow me . 40 mins with filming that is quick .great content
That Tran fluid was never changed. Based on the track record of this car.
Great video Eric. Always make it look easy. Been watching your videos for years. Learn something new everytime. Thanks Eric!
I haven't been able to keep up with all your vids as they come out, but I noticed you busted out Thor. Always cool to see friendly reliable self made tools. Stay dirty.
My son's vw Jetta 2013 2L went into garage last month and had the engine changed. Every thing went well, but after that every time he refill the gas tank, he had to crank for one minute to start the car. Then the car went back to normal again. Last week, he couldn't start the car in the parking of Macdonald, and the car was towed back to the garage. They checked and told us the battery is 7 years old and fuel pump needs to be replaced. I let them changed fuel filter only and bought a new battery and changed it myself, but now the car is running weak. I guess we need to change the fuel pump now. We spent 3000 Canadian dollars to change the engine and accessaries and now we have to spend another 500$ the change fuel pump. Can't understand so many parts broke at the same time.
Have you ever used side cutters to remove cotter pins? Soft bite and pry like removing nail with hammer
Great video. Thank you.
If you were a part on a Honda civic what one would you be?
Quad es tu trabajo
Man cylinder #4 saw vtec in his face
All you can do is laugh as you go along!
Seriously: WD-40 to loosen up electrical connectors? Maybe because because you are junking this car (but even then?); A non-conductive lubricant is required.
Hello erick hope everything is well with you i was doing some research on you chanel looking for timing change on 2009 honda crv 2.4 L but i couldn't fine any my question for you is should i use honda OEM PARTS or do you know any parts brand who can trust to , thanks in advance for your respond this is my first time doing this timing change im an DIYer but the way loving your videos i learn a lot from them keep it up buddy !!!!
3:40 dont get those 2 plugs mixed up, had a civic come in and it showed that it sent .2amps but it only got back .01amps, come to find out the solenoid and a sensor had the plugs swapped, man, that thing ran after the plugs were in the right spots tho lol
i wouldnt know that from personal experience haha
All the Honda enthusiasts:
it'll still run without the cylinder head
No Karen… no it won't…
Great video! I recently bought a house w a garage, and finally bought my first 500$ 98 civic, super beat up – but with intention of fixing it up. Engine and trans are still strong at 134k. But the suspension was garbage, seized bolts etc and horrible rust (midwest car). The car was so easy and satisfying to work on, but the seized parts is what was the real challenge, I never would;ve guessed that. Now I know its a thing among midwest cars! lol And you're right, these cars are super reliable… like the reliable Dot-Matrix printers they stopped making in the 80's. Those things took a beating and still ran forever!!! But then they stopped making them bc they were toooo good!
greetings eric from venezuela , its a honor see you and learn everything.
Eric, is the 7th gen civic a good buy? Looking at an 05 with 200k miles on it. My biggest concern is the auto trans but people on the forums are giving conflicting information. Worth buying or should I pass?
I love your beers you looking very beautiful
Eric why not a JDM engine over a salvage yard? IMO the JDMs are better made in Japan, low mileage, and no rust
Eric, I heard that rolling a Honda without the wheel bearing being compressed from the nut + axle can cause the bearing to separate.
is it always necessary to remove the transmission to get the engine out?
Tnks Mr Erik you got the most satisfying job in the world,,,,,,,,,your own 😀nice info n videos.
Eric, what were you pointing out on the one engine mount, when you said "this happens a lot, especially on manuals"? Curious, because I have a '95 Accord 5 speed manual. (love it)
Alot of work for a $1600 car
hi eric. what is your experience with older model toyota camrys? I am wanting to purchase/compare 98-06 year models. also, how do you feel about the ride quality of civic/accord and camry/corolla. Which one is more comfortable to ride in?
I'm strictly a DIYer, and I've never pulled an engine, but I gotta tell ya your videos in this series make it look decidedly less intimidating ðŸ˜ÂÂðŸ˜ÂÂ. Thanks for making it look easier than we all know it really is. Love learning from all the great tech guys like you, Eric O at SMA, PJ at Voltage Drop, Ivan, all of you guys help change challenge me to keep learning!!!
I'm using a transmission jack and a bucket to catch my coolant. 😃
