  1. I have a 97 and was just thinking of replacing mine because original has lost a lot of knobs and lights are out and pretty much unreplaceable. I love how simple these are compared a lot of aftermarket and even oems these days….yeah I'm an old man! Do want bluetooth though!

  2. Cool get rid of the Silverado high end radio and go for a low class chyenne or W/T knob style radio look. Do they have one that looks like the one you took out?

  3. Hey Eric, super random but i heard Bill Burr & Joe Rogan shout you out on Joe's podcast lol. Pretty cool to hear!

  4. Interesting to see retro-sound for 80-90's cars. They look like a decent match and fit the dash and layout style of that era.

  5. @ericthecarguy I need your help my car is running really lean and whenever I give it gas my car hesitates on performance it doesn’t over heat or anything. It also jerks every time it’s trying to shift. (It’s a automatic) what could be wrong?

  6. I bought a "Smart-interface" audio for my 2004 TL as a backup last year, as the original head died after 11 years and x2 remanufactured units failed in just a year (expensive lesson-for all 3G TL owners, DON'T even think of a remanufactured head). The one in the car (the 3rd remanufactured head) has been lasting for a while, but I bought that "Smart" thing as a last resort. I hate everything becoming "Smart" whatever, while we humans remain dumb.

  7. the stereo deck looks thin enough to mount on the roof above the rear view mirror. something Ive been considering in my old car so I can leave the original in its place

  8. The "amplifier" is their universal part that they use for every radio. They send different knobs and screens based on what setup you are going with. The plastic washers and hardware in that box are for a two shaft radio installation

  9. Here in MA, "ultra" translates to "wicked" … so they're wicked thin. 😁

That's a nice unit – matches the interior without looking too "space-agey". Sweet! 👍

  10. Put a retrosound into my 67 Mustang and 66 El Camino 3+ years ago, the fit and look great, always positive comments when someone realizes it has a digital display. I liked plugged in a 120 gig SSD drive and with the remote it works great. Still working, highly recommend.

  11. they didn't have those when I replace my stereo. I had to get the new bezel where the cassette player was and got a pioneer. I got some acrylic and turned the area the old control unit into a place for my mechanical oil gauge and switches for all my add-ons

  12. Tossed my 90 F150s stock HU and speakers went with a pioneer 7" flip out screen new speakers, amp and sub major change in sound. would like to dynomat or xmat it and redo the carpet, Its nice to have USB,GPS, and android auto in my 29yo truck.

  13. I am looking for a radio for my Hydra-Sport. I really like how compact the head unit is. Any info if these are produced in a marine version? Btw… I like the reviews. Keep em up, I’ll watch em..

  14. If radio modifications have to be made, I appreciate the subdued look of the new radio. The dash is not irreversibly cut to hell, & the new radio does not clash with the rest of the interior. A very nice & responsible choice!

  15. Those little deals (in the paper) with the speakers are strips of butyl rubber to hold the mesh part of the grill insets into the frame. It's the same stickum you'd find on the leak ender tapes by Gorilla or Nashua etc, etc. It's also the stickum on the back of Dynamat.

  16. Love the looks of the gmt400 trucks but cannot stand the interior. 95 up was better but still don't like it. Looks like you're making the best of it Eric I like it.

  17. That's really a nice setup I may try that on the next one I do, I've replaced five of them this month for various weird noise issues, great video thanks for sharing.

  18. I like your head unit choice. I loathe aftermarket headunits. I just can't justify $300 on a headunit like the retrosounds though. I found a sub $20 head unit that is very eom looking with bluetooth but single din not the 1.5 din like your retrosound unit.

It comes in red or red illumination but it's just a $20 unit so hours of soldering later, it's now orange matching my stock Pontiac Fiero orange illumination.

Mounting a single din was an issue. I also loathe all the install kits available. I like ISO mints and they don't make them for GM cars of my vintage. I ended up making one and it cost more than the radio.

  19. The stock speaker locations are part of the sound quality problem. They are too shallow to hold a good speaker without modification. If I remember right I had to modify the ducting on the front passenger side extensively to get my kicker plates in. In the rear I installed a surface mount plate to get the depth I needed.

  20. I took the cassette deck out of my 92 Chevy Silverado put a pioneer radio in its place. Kelp the small head unit beside the steering wheel now it's a clock I had a factory radio harness connect to the aftermarket harness connect to the box above the gas pedal. Not only do I have a better sound system I still have the original radio used as a clock like a Toyota 😂😂😂😂😂😂

  21. I like that radio aesthetically, especially if that one box is actually an amp. I don't care too much for unboxing videos though. Thanks for the up close and personal with the gear though. Have you gotten any cool tools lately? I ended up getting one of the Astro lights after seeing how yours performs and I love it!

  22. Love the unboxing vids. Please keep doing them. It really could help people know what they’ll get for their projects. Thanks Eric.

  23. Hmm neo neodim …. oh super magnets :), so you don't need such a big mass.
Also found in old computer hard drives on the head stack.
I laughed at the rubbish on the box, they do come up with a right load of old cobblers lol.
Other than that it looked smashing, a wolf in sheep's clothing.
