Use a micron gauge on high side connection only . Evacuate with a 2stage 4cfm pump connected via hose to low side coupler . A 2 stage gives quicker deeper vacuum .
Pull a vacuum as deep as 200 microns for 1hr . Check micron rise no greater than 1000 flattening off . Continual rise indicates either to much moisture or possibly a leak . Try evacuating more 1 hr at a time . Not unusual to evacuate for 4,6 or up to 12 hrs .
Charging manifolds when new need sealing on orings with di electric grease or Nylog . After flush with liquid refrigerant . The gauges will now seal very well under vacuum . . Not lubed only 3000 microns is achievable . Once lubed and flushed all is good to go .
Replace all rubber refrigerant hoses , replace r/drier , TXValve ,,,
Preferred to replace compressor , yes it will have new oil quantity .
Blower fan in GM car will always be rusty in side WHY because the blower tube cools it down internally . These genuine motors have metal tabs u bend back and disassemble both halves . clean /blast inside / prime . GM Blower motors can be ground thru fan body and power supplied thru a rubber insulated post . Solder wires pos/neg onto motor brush leads . This improves motor performance alot . Lubricate motor bushings bearings with anti seize with PTFE
Evaporator coil needs to be flushed internally with 100% evaporating white spirit hydrocarbon . Do via a shop air gun spraying hydrocarbon . This removes debris /moisture and compressor oil .
After treatment is to blow thru with nitrogen. Why to remove moisture and ensure hydrocarbon is gone .. **IF U HAVE REMAINING OIL AND NEW COMPRESSOR WITH OIL SYSTEM WILL BE OVER FULL AND WILL NOT COOL .
**Condenser is flushed the same way
**Cap exposed pipe ends till system can be assembled .
I'm disappointed in this episode in that a shop that is as well equipped as this doesn't have an A/C recharge machine. With one of those, the engine does not need to be running and an exact refrigerant charge can be had. I realize most DIY'ERS don't have one of these, but there is alot of equipment in this shop that most don't have.
Y'all should make a built lawnmower engine.
I guess the S10 build is done? Or dead?
Nothing like a nice warm box.
Great job guys 👍👍
Love watching y’all work. I’m in Nashville and have one in my driveway begging for y’all’s help.
it's still kind of an eye sore next to the black firewall in the Shiny motor
Awesome job and beautiful ❤️
Used to do auto AC in the early eighties plenty of jerks wanted everything for free they used to buy R12 1lb cans for a buck.
Believe me those GM and Fords of the era everything leaked.
I hated working with cheap Chicago trash especially Corvette owners.
The THUNDERBOLT could JUMP SH-T AND SHOUT 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Every tool imaginable at their disposal, and they use an a vacuum "pump" from the era that the car was new. Get a 3cfm vacuum from hazard fraught with a coupon for $100 and come into the modern era.
Edit… Never in my 25yrs of auto repair have I added freon to system with the vehicle running. Without a proper a/c machine, the initial charge is on the high side with the vehicle off and "top off" with it running. Once again, a proper a/c machine should be used to ensure the proper amount of freon goes into the system.
I remember my mom's had that same kind of car I always sat in the back and Harley felt the air conditioning so my mom used to tell me and my sisters to watch out for the cops and roll the windows down and went fast…😂 those were the good old days.
Milking the build at this point. Run that thing!
Back in the day when things were made out of metal. 😢 Nowadays you have to be a genius using a 3d printer to recreate some tiny plastic part.
I’ve never understood in the automotive world why a pressure test is not performed with nitrogen before pulling a vacuum
Awesome I can’t wait til it’s complete
Lots of very good solid advice here for many to follow.
The knockoff Huey Lewis Back in Time music during the rewind
Good work boys.
It would be kinda funny, if after all this time, they take the caprice into a derby.
Car looks cool
161👍's up PN thank you for sharing 🤗
This is awesome
You would think you would get the heater box out..when the engine was out
