Most of you know that the rear brake shoe videos are among my most popular so when I get a chance to video a job like this I always take the opportunity. This one is pretty typical of an American car in my experience and I believe to be a pretty straightforward operation. Also covered in this video is jacking up the vehicle and putting it on jack stands because I get so many requests for that.

  2. Good video but u looked bummed when u said I love this I love this job lol. Shit sucks don’t lie lol Na I live doing mechanics but some days you just wanna shoot that mf car and crush it. I’m having a electrical problem I can’t figure out in my f150 2013 put in new high amp alt 0gage wire all way around new yellow top and still battery light comes on and it bounced from 13/15 volts and gages bounce. Tested alt it’s good did relays fuses checked all wires fusible links all the grounds reset the ecu and pcm any clues?

  3. If you will remove the spring keepers the whole brake shoe assembly will fall into your hands. Just take a picture of it first and leave the other side together for reference for re assembly.

    On the 2006 the E brake attachment arm is made onto the brake shoe! You have to……somehow pull the spring back to get it into the slot! And its tight!!

    I trying to find out if it has an adjustment on the E brake cable so I can release the tension! No luck so far!

  4. Rock Auto parts rear drums new are $14.61 to $19.64 with a new Cylinder $2.79 to $7.97 each but of course original Chrysler parts are 10 times the money. Tell the owner that the drums are and cylinders are shot and replace. An extra $25 a side is cheap.

  6. Very helpful video , self adjuster mechanism was missing from the used PT Cruiser I purchased and obviously was causing noticeable braking issues. I purchased all new hardware including drums and shoes and installed everything as demonstrated , I then bled the entire system and now all is A-OK ! Thanks Eric !

  8. dude thank you for sharing this information. I was feeling so defeated after doing a brake replacement on my old camper van, thought I had royally screwed something up because the pedal was going WAY too far in. I thought you adjusted the star gear so that you could just barely wiggle the drum on then adjust it the rest of the way by backing up and stomping on the brakes. the old guy at the parts store told me that's how you do it, well he was partly correct but if its way out of adjustment its never gonna sinch up by backing up and stomping the brakes, I didn't realize there was an access hole behind the adjuster……..duuuuurp…. I have done my own brakes forever but never had drums!! always just rotors, this was a new one for me!!

  9. Just got finished with my driver side drum (ran out of sunlight) took me 3 hours but It was my first time dealing with drums. Hopefully the second doesnt take anywhere near as long. Not gonna lie im kinda pissed I didnt need any of the tools to do the job except the adjustment spoon. A big thing Id suggest for getting the drums off is #1 make sure the shoes are backed off (on my 06 pt cruiser you pull the paddle towards you to contract and away from you to expand the shoes, not sure if all are the same), and # 2 Spray some penetrating oil on the adjustment screw threads. Mine was locked up on the threads till I sprayed it. took an hour and a half to figure out that was the problem where I couldnt get the drum off.

  13. Hey, you love doing brake shoes. I find it extremely annoying and patience testing. Them springs can be hard on some cars. Thank Christ for pads and discs.
