We keep hearing it over and over…self-driving cars are the way of the future. A lot of people think they’re right around the corner. But Road and Track found a study done by AAA that says otherwise.
According to the study, three-quarters of Americans are still too afraid to ride in an autonomous vehicle. That’s saying a lot considering traffic deaths are skyrocketing due to DUIs, cellphones, and other distractions. The results of the survey had no change from the same survey done a year earlier. So it seems people are holding their ground on slowing down the automotive technology. While engineers and automakers are going full-speed ahead with self-driving technology, Americans are still worried about loss of control in fully autonomous cars but are open to the idea driver-assist features like automated emergency braking and lane-keeping assist.
59% of people surveyed actually said they’re looking for these features in their next car, which is a step in the right direction. With autonomous and semi-autonomous technologies there’s the potential to prevent up to 80% of crashes. So are you one of the people on board with the idea? Or are you still undecided when it comes to letting your car take control?
