There may soon be changes to the EPA standards put in place by the Obama administration. Originally, Obama’s vehicle standards were locked in until 2021, but before he left office the EPA scheduled a midterm evaluation meaning that the standards could stay the same until 2025. So President Trump may have a chance at rolling back the standards.

After a speech in Michigan, Trump stated he would be canceling the executive action taken by Obama on vehicle fuel economy, according to Spero News. The original standards were supposed to make emission standards stricter over time so that by 2025, new cars would average 48-49mpg. Trump announced that the EPA will redo the midterm evaluation next year.

This would allow the EPA and the Department of Transportation to develop less harsh emissions standards for 2022 to 2025. CEO of Fiat-Chrysler, Sergio Marchionne, chimed in and said he thinks most automakers that produce SUVs and trucks will benefit from this rollback. What do you think?
