With all the other technology in the automotive market advancing, it was only time before we had “smart plates”. Some might say, why fix it if it’s not broken, but the new plates may have some advantages. Like when your plates are up for renewal, all you have to do is pay online and the tags update themselves…no visits to the DMV.

It’s called the Reviver Plate and is being tested across California. The plate has other features like marking itself “stolen” when you report your car missing or showing information of an Amber Alert. However, consumers won’t be able to change the letters and numbers of the actual plate. The plates cost $700 and have a $7 monthly fee…is it worth it to skip DMV trips?

  1. Well, 70% of California can't afford them, so good luck with that dumb ass idea. Even less for the rest of the country! I'm pretty sure they won't be very durable for the elements. Heat, hail, snow, rain, dirt, sand, pollution, accidents, theft…..all will be very costly and they will put it on the owner of the vehicle. And there is nothing stopping the DMV with altering the info to screw you over! This opens the door for so much criminal foolery against the law abiding citizens!

  2. Heck No, It's all online for CA registration for the most part, plus, I'd not want the tracking/GPS that's also most likely part of this… Especially in Kalifornia…
