While taking apart the salvage auction Range Rover we find a timing tensioner not set correctly and new timing parts. Since this car was at the dealer the same time it died it had to have been at the fault of a tech who performed the job incorrectly.

Lol crying he's throwing everything away
Why do the injectors have to be disturbed at all?
Why are these such junk?
Thing is, would the dealership, once shown the root cause of the problem accept responsibility and fix it FOC??
I should add that with so many US made similar vehicles why would you go for a foreign one with few and far people capable
of maintaining them plus the added cost of ownership.
How did you become so rich ??? crack head ???
I know the range is nice and all..personally I'll stay away from them
I always wanted a Range Rover, but I ended-up with a Lexus RX hybrid. Seems to be more reliable and certainly uses less gas than a Rangie. Ride quality is a bit hard, though. And I don't look forward to replacing the height-adjustable shockers…
Pressure eash engine/ bay area first then air dry with blower -WAAY nicer to work on -see tools fit and last longer and less contamination risk
Thank you for your video – I always like to see inside a motor that I haven't worked on. I understand your explanation and demonstration of how the Piston Tensioner is set by removing the pin. And how you felt the Piston Tensioner was not set by whomsoever fitted the updated Chain Follower/Tensioner. Was a pin still in the Piston Tensioner and thus not set leaving the Cam Chain untensioned? If the pin was not present then it must have been removed thus setting the Piston Tensioner and allowing full spring tension to be exerted by the Piston onto the button of the revised Chain Follower/Tensioner. If this is the case – ie; no pin present – how did the chain jump the sprocket? Lastly, was this a manufacturer recall to have these parts updated. You don't expect preventative maintenance to destroy your engine!
The problem is that people who buy these cars as a 2nd owner (and more) can't afford to maintain them correctly. A car that costs $100,000+ still 5/10/15 years years later needs maintaining as if it is a new car. Looked after they are just as reliable as any other car
Warped head and block, god damn that’s seriously unfortunate.
Does honey work outside the US, (UK) and on linux?
I like the dance track to the time lapse, nice touch
Just swap an LT1 or something into it. Ditch the bad design.
Your first mistake was buying that piece of crap. J.D. Power rated them crappy for a reason, they all belong in the scrap yard. It took me 5 years to finally talk my sister into getting rid of hers after she had dumped 10k into it and under 100k miles.
Now put it back together…..
Fantastic videos Sam. I discovered your channel a few days ago. There is so much great content! Amazing to see these elite machines in lots of shiny pieces
This channel is a lot of fun for me. I know NOTHING about engines, etc. and I learn every time I watch. Is this an engine "rebuild"?
There are just so many better SUV's out there with better reliability and a lot cheaper. People buy these for the prestige but soon regret it. I think the Alfa Romeo Stelvio is a much better buy and it looks and drives better.
I would do a complete check on this engine.
It would be nice if these engineering morons could make it NOT be an interference motor.

Is there a website like FCPEuro for Japanese cars?
