This Twin Turbo Genesis G90 ran through the auction for over a month. The selling dealer claimed it had a bad engine problem, and it needed an entire new engine. I took a gamble at a 50% discount and got super lucky…

  1. Well, done. I have numerous hand tools that are "modified" for certain applications. Ground down or heated and bent and they stay in their own spots in by rollaway toolbox. I always take a few pictures before tackling any intensive teardowns. The 3.3 V6 is a great motor, I had one in a 2006 Sonata and I traded with 255K miles on my current 2014 Genesis 3.8 V6 that has 223,500 miles on it…great car.

  2. Genesis owner here . Great car if you want the luxury features. Big weakness is very limited dealer coverage. Vast areas of the U.S. have no Genesis dealer. Bizarrely Kia or Hyundai (Genesis is owned by Hyundai) won't do even minor warranty work even if the nearest Genesis dealer is hundreds of miles away. Out of warranty ,just hope the Hyundai dealer will help – or diy like Sam. No sign of any rapid expansion of the Genesis dealership so if you buy new, just get a high spec Hyundai – same components without the spotty dealer coverage issue.

  3. Hyundai/Kias don't hold up well over time. Problems like this develop all the time. My mechanic does not recommend them to anyone as he calls them mechanic's cars. They constantly have problems and the more electronics you have, the more problems you have. He bought a used one with a bunch of problems to fix up so he could learn a lot from all the trouble spots that he fixes all the time. His recommendation for a luxury car is not even a luxury car – Mazda. They don't need many repairs and last a lot longer than these Korean cars. With the Mazda interior and ride, they are competing as a budget Lexus/Genesis/Audi competitor. A friend of mine who last had an Audi with a blown engine, bought the Mazda and loves it saying it is just as nice and more reliable.

  4. I don't understand, while you are there, why not service all injectors and change spark plugs, gaskets, and make this car ride freely for another 60k without issues? Would cost you extra couple hundreds but you are still making a lot more on this car.
