Probably one of the most asked questions I’ve gotten over the years, How Do I Remove a Honda Crank Bolt? In this video I cover that very thing.
If you’re trying to do a timing belt on a Honda or Acura, this video will help. Doesn’t matter if you have air tools or not. In fact, there are many times where air tools won’t work. If you find that to be the case, check the tool listing below.
Thanks for watching!

Is this video reversed or what?
You could try heating it then breaking it free also
I wish that special 19mm socket was available to purchase in UK 🙁
Used the Honda tool to hold and 1/2 inch breaker with cheater. Honda tool slipped and broke the crankshaft pully.
So do these loosen counter clockwise like normal?
I gave up. 😀 My neighbours got a Milwaukee impact, i will try that, if not i will order the tool, £20 off ebay.
Do you spin it clockwise or counter clockwise ?
Always loosen the crank pulley bolt before your power steering/alternator belts. Always helps
Is it a reverse thread?
Will it damage the engine if engine crankshaft turns counter clockwise while trying to break crank bolt loose?
I remember this four years ago on my 98 civic. 1/2" impact couldn't budge it, I also snapped a couple breaker bars on this bolt. I took it to a semi tire shop where they had 1" impact wrenches and paid a guy to break it loose for me. That 1" had no problem at all, something was going to give using an impact wrench that size, thankfully it was just the bolt coming loose.
I'm installing my crank pulley back on a 2010 civic. The pulley does not go all the way in. Does it have to be align with the groves for it sit all the way in? Thanks
I've been reading from the "experts" in the YouTube comment section saying dont use a impact gun on crank pulleys bc it will damage the bearings. Any truth behind this?
Got the tool, got breaker bars, hot cheater bars…..and a broken extension lol
Buying a gun tomorrow
Hi Sir. Eric.i have issue with my civic 96 crankshaft.my car mechanic told me to replace the half block for the reason the the thread inside are damaged. Is it advice to replace the half block completely? Or is there any option ?
kindly advice.Thank you.
Left to loosen for those who came to check
Hey Eric. I'm working on my 94 Accord and I can't seem to get my crank bolt off. I've tried practically everything form the special tools with the breaker bar to a special impact socket make by Lisle on an impact wretch. I don't know what else to do. Seeoing professional help and advice. Have you ever seen a honda crank bolt that is reverse thread? Or do you think that this could be because someone probably used too much "lock tight". What do you think i should do if I can't get it off? Please get back to me in this 🙠ðŸ˜ÂÂ
Crank Bolts is the tightest bolt on any vehicle.
U the best.
I have 02.acura mdx I used habour freight electric Bauer took it off in two seconds electric works well on these
