As stated in the video I’m posting this one by popular demand, I had not used my chainsaw in 3 years and I needed to get it started, these are the methods that I employed to do that and I was successful. If you have questions about small engines or have issues with them I highly recommend you check out these channels.

Taryl Dactyl. I learned from him about making sure to use to correct amount of Seafoam i.e. 1 oz. per gallon. And don't mix in the tanK. He knows about people who just splash that Seafoam in the tank and then the fuel lines get eaten up. Anyway, great video and enjoyable. You're one of my favorites too!
Thank you. Replaced spark plug and used your method. Started right up!
I got my string trimmer running without 7 years of sitting in the shed
Mine sat for 15 years started with old gas ran great however after new gas it won’t idle on its own.
I learned a lot. Remove spark plug and pull the cord.
Caution: be certain you put gas in the gas tank and oil where it belongs. Don't fool with a chainsaw with you head on other things than the chainsaw!
Of course it is a two stroke its a chainsaw 🤣
Thanks for this video. Will give it a shot with my Stihl 361 tomorrow…or I'll just shoot it.
Thanks for the video, question, if you said your gas has gone “sourâ€ÂÂ, why it was still able to burn the gas and started the engine? Should I drain all the old gas out? What was the little bit seafoam liquid you poured in used for?
Hockey mask
Do we get to see you cutting a tree down?
I like everything you said in this video because I am lacking background information on small gas engines. I'm watching lots of videos trying to understand how this stuff works and you have helped tremendously Eric. This is one of the best videos I've seen so far. Thank you for taking your time to share your knowledge on this subject.
ericTheCarGuy you think thats impressive? try making a homelite ez 250 made in the 70s run after sitting 40 years like i did today . just needed fuel lines and a carburater cleaning. it had so much compression omg!!! i never would have thought it was that easy to fix but iuve been doing chainsaw repairs sence i was 15teen and im 36 now. its only knowledge bro. ive had saws shops couldnt fix and i fixed them in three hours just doing a full review of them. shops know nothing. come watch my sthil video of the ms192 t i fixed for my climber i work for. on my channel . theres no saw i cant fix if its not got a thrown rod or lose of compression. any way good video man. you taught me things about cars over the past 5 years thanks. i been fixing new cars sence 2009. them check engine lights are fun hahaha. but old cars and trucks are nothing to fix man.
My PR4218 is a bout two years old and been used a few times. Three days ago I was cutting some limbs. It was running and cutting fine and it stopped. I haven’t been able to restart it.
Plug looked good but I put a new one in and properly gapped it
All filters & screens are clean
Compression seems good
New gas with proper oil
I’ve tried every suggestion for starting. Still won’t start.
Iam thinking of working on chainsaws for a small hobby
Anyone notice after he takes out the plug at 5:03 where he says "without the plug in" he shows a clip of the ignition switch…and the plug is mysteriously installed again…?
Most of the time a kickback isn’t due to a chainsaw starting improperly, moreso of user error, trying to chew through more than you should, using improper cutting angles, using the wrong chain (ie pitch and gauge isn’t consistent with the bar or vice versa), using the wrong bar, drop starting , etc.
In essence if you use your head for what it should be used for instead of a battering ram, you should almost never get cut by your saw and I don’t even use a saw that much but these things should be adhered to, you’re using a spinning bar of death after all and it not tolerate any type of disrespect.
PS based on what ive read re: that type of chainsaw I am going to put it back to 14†and just buy a Timberwolf that’s rated 20†and put a 18†on it, that way I have a smaller one for cutting trimming and making firewood and I have a bigger one do I don’t have to mess with cutting on both sides to fall a 20†diameter tree….yeah I know I can technically do it wit a 14†but you have to admit a 18-20†bar (50+cc engine) will have an easier time chewing through all that wood than having to beat up a 30cc engine
That chainsaw is arguably the best chainsaw echo ever made. It takes such a beating it’s not even funny
Eric, wanted you to know after more than 6 months of not running my chainsaw did not want to start which even had old gas in the tank. After seeing your video, I followed what was on your clip. I bought a new plug, emptied the old gas replaced it with new premixed gas, put some sea foam in the cylinder, I pulled the rope and it fired on the first pull. I was amazed. I could not believe it and after a few more pulls, it was running. Thank you for providing your video which helped me keep it out of the shop and a repair bill. Thanks again.
You heard compression?
Nice design chainsaw, never heard of Echo chainsaws before. Looks robust and convenient to work on.
Only thing that started is because it's an echo!
Tt
Nope – her's the routine on the CS306 as it was taught to me by Mike at Mike's Mowers in Kingsville, OH:
1) set throttle at full and lock,
2) push the fuel bulb ten times,
3) put the choke fully on and with switch on
4) pull until it fires, no matter how small
5) then take the choke fully off and pull
6) it will start and you take control of the throttle and warm up manually and then
7) start cutting !
Chainsaw chaps are a must, and if you don’t already carry a tourniquet, you should when you’re operating a chainsaw!
You know it's good when you hear that trademark echo 'poppy' idle.
i stihl miss my ol poulan i messed up for sure ,, that was a great saw
i read the owners manual on my new poulan saw and it said that the 40;1 number means that you have a 40;1 chance of starting it ,, they werent lying at all
Great video. I will try your suggestions tomorrow. My chainsaw has been sitting there for about 2 years already. I hope I can make it run again. Thank you again.
Young eric is weirder and less bearded and therefore less cucky looking back then, but god damn this video is retarded as fuck
I hadn't started one of my Homelite chainsaws in 15 years. I just pulled the starter rope and it popped off. Didn't think the event was worth making a video over.

My ryobi chainsaw start wiv choke on then when I press trigger it cuts out can u tell me y please thank Jason
How I started my dirt bike after 3 years kicked the thing down…………HARD
"Taryl fixes all" is a best small engine repairing channel that I've found. And he is funny too
Do you take your car to a small engine shop to get worked on? Then don't listen to this car guy about chainsaws. So much bad info here.
