This video series will cover the complete rebuild of the front suspension, steering, and brakes on a GMT400 2WD truck. These trucks ran from 1988-1998.
This installment covers the installation of the front suspension, sort of. There are some parts issues. Also, I hope you’re able to learn from my mistakes. 😉

What was the torque on the ball joint nuts?
I'm not a GM guy, but that truck looks GOOD.
Dude! You are SO awesome for leaving your mistakes in the videos. You have saved so many man hours for others it ain't even funny. Well, maybe a little…. HA! Because you actually had the video of how it came off. >.<
Exelente Video Gracias Eric
You installed the center link backwards
Would you have been able to swap out bearings, to make the rotors work with spindles?
You're gloves seem to always last forever, what brand?
Love the dad's truck series. I own a 99 k1500 and while yours is 2wd it still helps a lot since most of it is going to be the same. I also enjoy watching all the videos just for education purposes
😂😂😂
@EricTheCarGuy…do you still have those "larger" spindles? I would happily take them off your hands..
Patience is a virtue. You must have gotten that from your Dad. Amen
it's funny i've said the same exact words out loud about walking away to figure out what an idiot i was
Watch all front suspension series in one sit, great real work. Supplier with defective parts should be embarrassed
WARNING WARNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ERIC. I HAVE THE SAME TRUCK WITH THE SAME BRAKE LINE KIT. I USED THE ALUMINUM SEALING WASHERS. THEY SUCK. THEY CORRODED SO FAST ON ME AND CAUSED A BRAKE FAILURE THAT NEARLY GOT ME IN AN ACCIDENT.
"I did discover it before I drove it" 😂😂 proper mechanic. Real life.
I gotcha, I am entertained;-)
Left out how to set the spindle nut. The one from 9 years ago wasn’t very well explained.
Man you need to get some higher quality cotter pins. If you bend them with your hands that easy they are super cheap!! Love your videos though well done sir!
I am very pretty, because i watch ETCG. Must watch all ETCG videos 👀
I am very good looking Eric. Thanks. LUL
For the skinny on directional rotors see https://www.zeckhausen.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=6446_6515 BTW your smartphone running a Clinometer app can do a pretty good camber measurement.
Quality content <3
Well, I didn't scream at the screen, but I chuckled on the last video when the stabilizer bar was inserted upside down. Been there, done that.
ERIC! You reminded me i need to do my swivel hubs….abd the fact i dont own a bearing packer….by hand i guess it is
I do Love a Mechanic who makes mistakes and owns them then corrects them…Great Vidios Eric
Your style of humor is so fun. I needed a few laughs.
Nice serie , nice truck , nice work !
If the car thing doesn't work out you can always work at medieval times 1:58.

this series is so cool I just lost my dad after several years of illness. he loved working on car projects like this with me. right before he passed in April I was out looking for a truck with my younger daughter and saw an unmolested 94 GMC standard cab step side sitting in the back corner of a lot and asked about it. a couple weeks later my dad passed unexpectedly and I kept thinking about the truck, I went back and made an offer and bought it. it was an odd brown with a bent up front bumper so i proceed like my dad and I would have and begun doing a lot of the same things your doing with yours. I cleaned it all cleaned up and painted black with a blue pearl. Im changing the interior to grey now and the urethane bushings and 2'' 4'' drop suspension parts are on their way from summit right now. it runs good but is a 4.3 and I cant in good conscious keep it that way so I have been shopping for the necessary ls parts to swap it. its very cool to watch your videos of you doing such a similar build for your father while Im doing this one in memory of mine. cant wait to see them both done. Hope your dad loves his I know mine will. hes always along for a ride with me. some of his remains are in the trucks key chain Thank you for the videos
Yes we are entertained Gladiator 😂
Hi Erick.I own an 89 shortbox withe 350 throttle body.it is a sport version what ever that means.but this thing was crazy fast when I bought it.fo you Know if some came from the factory with any specific add ons.it looks just like the one your working on
Does anyone know where I can get the "dust shields" aka front brake rotor splash shields for a 1989 GMC Sierra SLE 4Ãâ€â€4 5.7L 8' bed regular cab? OE part numbers are below!
Left 15627243
Right 15627244
I got these part numbers from my local GM dealer by the VIN!
Coat those wheels with Rust Check Coat & Protect (rub in like wax on the face of the rim ) if you want to run that truck in winter eric. It's like a thick gel.
I hope Eric takes this truck to Krown Rust Control Or Rust Check.
