Well here you are after many requests for this one it’s finally here. I shot this last spring but I’ve been saving it for you as a special present. In this episode we go over the principals of operation and replacement of a basic front disc brake set up. It all starts with a shaking steering wheel and ends with new brakes. I think this is a pretty good video overall and gives the important information you would need to perform this task yourself. A couple of notes. I didn’t have time to go over how to isolate a brake pulsation between front or rear in this video. Also, I had a very easy time of getting these rotors off, I can assure you that this is not often the case, I could probably do a video just on removing difficult rotors alone. I may do a video on that in the future as I collect some different scenarios for you.

It is my understanding that anti-seize is not a lubricant so it should be used for static parts such as a nut and bolt or a rim seated against a rotor hub.Parts that move known as dynamic parts need a lubricant such as brake grease.
Thank you!
Hi, so you open the brake bleeder valve and clamp off the brake line before you push back the caliber piston so the brake master cylinder is not damaged. How would the brake master cylinder be damaged if you didn't do this, does the brake master cylinder have a one-way fluid value that would be damaged…
Can you use that copper anti seize on thebrake hardware like the clips they sit on?
Super! Just quick question about the caliper pin: I have 2017 Infinity QX60, I changed front and rear brake pad/rotors, flushed brake fluids. I found there is a sliding pin bushing on one sliding pin bolt for each caliper. I noticed Front caliper pin with rubber bushing on the bottom of caliper, and Rear caliper pin with rubber bushing on the top of caliper; But the service manual page BR-37 shows the figure for both Front and Rear caliper pin with rubber bushing on the TOP (driver side view). would you please let me know the difference for put this caliper pin with rubber bushing on the top/bottom, and why there is rubber bushing on the pin? Thanks a lot.
I like your edits Eric. You did this in record time. Good job.
Wishing I saw this years ago when the head mechanic told me to just go and switch out brake pads on an f150 instead of showing me how lmao
Back for the 10-Year Anniversary Celebration of this video! Changing out my wife's front disc brake pads and discs. Saving my umpteenth $100 thanks to the legendary Eric the Car Guy!
What’s the reason to take the rubber cap off the bleeder valve of the brakes?
do you need to bleed the breaks?
Hey Eric nice video i was wondering why you left the car in the on or accessories position when you did all this? Also, if i do it the way you described do i HAVE to bleed the brakes afterwards?
Great job. Your're the man!
I miss THIS Eric the Car Guy.
Best videos!
Why is it so hard to buy silicone paste /silicone grease for brake calliper slides in Australia. And particularly in a handy tin with brush like Eric has here.
I can get it on eBay from America for about $40 a tin PLUS âž• about $45 postage!
Or a 100 millilitre plastic tube from the UK for about $35 delivered.
But why is it not readily available in our autoshops? They just don't seem to stock it???
Do we use something else?
Is the food grade silicone we have in our dive supply shops the same thing, same melting point etc?
I thought it would be so easy to just go buy a tin of silicone paste for my brake callipers… Go figure.
Great video as usual! I noticed you applied silicone paste to the slide pins. Have you removed slide pins that you applied silicone paste after say 50,000 miles and confirmed that the silicone paste did not dry up and was still functioning?
Instead of clamping the brake line is it ok to depress the brake pedal with a brake pedal depressor tool before pressing in the cylinder? Thanks!
you are a legend
Thank you Eric
well explined sir,
🙂
hi Eric , is it necessary to release brake fluid value to let small amount of brake fluid to escape in order to push caliper piston back or it is OK to just use C Clamp to just push the caliper piston without releasing brake value, which method is right even for front or rear brake pads replacement? thanks
Hey eric how u make that homemade tool?
hey Eric good morning I have an 01 Isuzu Trooper I'm not able to disconnect the ABS module and I know that it's a poor connection at the ABS module I pulled the little lever on the inside of the connector but I still can't get them apart any ideas would be greatly appreciated thank you
can you give a list of all tools and accessories needed to do this job?
So I replaced just my brake caliper for the front passenger side and didn't change the rotors and pads. Took it for a test drive and when I take turns or when I'm going 65 mph, my vehicle shakes. Is this the cause of not changing the rotors and pads?
I also use anti-seize or caliper grease between the new rotor and the hub, then again between the wheel and the rotor. here in Maine, salt will rust these parts together quickly. By lubricating them every time you have them apart, you can ensure that the parts are easier to take apart next time.
Eric why aren't you showing proper cleaning or the caliper mounting brackets? there is usually more rust build up in northern states that cause pads to lock in place as well as the slides. there was no mention to use the correct caliper slide grease, or even using some stay quiet on the back of pads, or anti-sieze on spot with metal on metal contact. I have to ask are you ASE certified? You are knowledgeable yes but there are proper steps to make brakes last longer.
Hi eric, why do you open the bleeeder valve to push the piston back in what wrong with just pushing it back with out opening it ðŸ˜ÂÂ
Eric, why do you turn key to on position when doing the brake job?
thanks eric …
can you please recommend pads and rotors?
hi is it necessary to open and drain the brake fluid , can we just squeeze the piston back with out fluid drain
Does it matter which rotor you get .?do I have to get from dealer or I can get rotor from places like Pepboys, advance auto part ,
Hey, i always just open the brake fluid reservoir and use a c-clamp to push back the piston, does that damage the master pump too ? I could imagine something going bad with the brake liquid reservoir cap on but if its off, and a little of brake fluid freely leaks out then i just wipe it and refill.
hello eric
alain from france
i don't succed to change all my brakes disk and pads in the front of my daewoo musso ex ssangyong 2.3 td….shit!!
can you help me please?
thanks for all

Hi Eric thanks for video.I recently changed front brake pad for my Toyota Yaris. but I wasn't sure I put the hardware on the pad right. I watch your video, but haven't seen you put any hardware at all. Could you please make video how to proper way put hardware when replaceing disk brake pad.
How bad is it to force the fluid back into the master cylinder? I did not open that bleeder valve or pinch the line last time I did pads.
What springs are you referring to that keep the pads in place?
Hey Eric, i what does it mean when i compress the pistons and brake fluid leaks from the master cylinder? Would this cause my new brakes to feel soft and have to push far down to get them to brake?

Hello Eric! Thank you for all your video's! They have helped me fix many things on my cars. Now on to my question…when lubing the caliper slides can I use silicone lubricating spray rather than a paste? I know it won't stick to it as much, but will it work in a pinch? Thanks!
Hay ,Eric must say love your videos you explain them all very well. I do have a question on a 2009-2010 Chrysler Town and Country or Dodge Caravan the front pads where is the correct direction of the brake wear indicators. I have seen some in front and some in back some on top and some on the bottom. Which is the proper method, or is their?
do you torque the caliper bracket?
Thanks, this helped. & why turn the key on?
Did you have to bleed it a little before? Could you bleed it after you finished the installation? Do you even have to bleed it at all?
