As Tommy and Marc wrap up the paint job on the ’69 Dodge Charger, there are a few things left to do. Yep, even after the base and final coat of clear spray there are still a few steps left. So Rob with Sonax stopped by to give us some pointers.

To get started, after you’ve sanded to remove the orange peel the CutMax is going to be your next product. This cutting compound is the first step in getting back the luster and the gloss of the paint. Then you want to choose either Perfect Finish, for a rotary machine, or EX 04-06 for a dual-action machine. The benefits behind Sonax compounds are that it’s water based which gives it a long working window and there is no dusting which makes the cleanup process easier.

For the Charger they went with the CutMax, a wool pad and a rotary machine. With CutMax you don’t have to keep switching pads and compounds to achieve your desired effect thanks to its diminishing abrasives and you can eliminate several steps. For ideal results, work in small areas across the car.

Next, you can move on to the polishing stage. The Charger is getting the EX 04-06 and it picks up where the CutMax left off by removing the rest of the imperfections from the paint. The beauty of this is, it’s your last step! No messing around with 4, 5, 6 step processes anymore. For more information check out https://SonaxUSA.com
