The next live hang out is scheduled for February 18, 2015 at 7pm EST. Check my Google+ page for details: https://plus.google.com/b/100195180196698058780/100195180196698058780/posts

First, sorry for the technical issues during the show. I did catch that it dropped out and I have no idea why, but it does come back before the end.

In this live show we talked about noises in your dash, strange smells, replacing a stereo in your vehicle, alarm problems, rounded fasteners, computer issues, security system issues, installing rivets on brake rotors, intermittent stalling, crank sensors, mixing synthetic oils, rebuilding or replacing a transmission, high mileage engines, stuck brake calipers, replacing parking brakes, AC compressor failure, and what to lubricate your door latches with.

If I didn’t get to your question I apologize. Questions posted after the event ends will not be answered. Questions posted to the YouTube video will not be answered. Next show is February 18 7pm EST though, or visit EricTheCarGuy.com 24/7/365.

  1. +earthbrown8 I don't know if you'll get this, but you set your YouTube to not allow any reply comments. The 03 Toyota Matrix has an engine that I know very well. It has the same 1ZZFE that the Pontiac Vibe and my Toyota Corolla, 8th generation, had first. It's even made it's way into the Celica for some years and they put it in backwards…the exhaust was on the opposite side, lol.

Anyway, no you'll never change the timing belt on that car. It has a timing chain. I have 170k miles now and I should check for timing chain slack. I will, when I rebuild the engine just because I want to port and polish it. It's still going very strong.

  2. I need help on my 2003 jaguar s type I have the check engine light on and it reads p1647 do I need to replace my 02 sensor ?

  3. 2004 toyota highlander 3.3 4×4
Swapped the engine with a rebuilt one. Runs great, no Engine light.
The problem: when is cold and you first start it makes this rattle noise really loud. It sounds like something hydraulic is dry. Or when it sits I would say more than 30 minutes o more. It makes the noise. What could it be? It has about 10,000 miles on new engine. Thanks

  4. hey Eric, i have a 2000 ford ranger and i think i might need a new fuel pump. the symptoms are when the truck hasent been started in a little while you have to turn the key on and off 3 times for it to start otherwise it just wont start at all it will act like its loping

  5. Firstly, great videos, really helpful in educating me being a young motorist. I have a 2002 Ford Galaxy 1.9 Turbo Diesel. (European Ford, not the original US Galaxy) Over the last year it has had serious power issues and barely makes it past 60mph on straight roads or 45mph on hills. After taking it to a Ford garage, the mechanics stated it was either an Air Mass sensor issue or Turbo issue, yet despite spending £180 for the garage to check what the issue was, they disappointingly couldn't give me an answer. From the sounds of what they said strongly recommended a part exchange, I assumed it was a expensive issue most likely in replacing the Turbo. Are there any methods to check your turbo to see if it is working, and if so, how efficiently?

    Mr Petrov from UK.

  6. hi eric, long time fan, i have a 2000 nissan altima, i installed a new serpentine belt, but it makes loud noise now and wont run, not sure what i did wrong

  7. Hi, I have a MG TF and need to remove the engine! It is a mid engine, do you have tips on how to remove it? I need to replace clutch release arm! Thanks

  8. Hi Eric ( Love your shows) I have a Ford f-150 and I have been having a problem with my car dieing  after I turn on the Air Condition. Wanted to know what can be causing this problem.

  9. In the Focus clutch video, you use a conditioning disc to clean it up – you mention it's made from rubber but it seemed to work really well.  Seems like it would be better than the Roloc discs some manufacturers dont want us using to clean gasket surfaces.  Can you share where you got those?

  10. Had my clutch replaced on my 09 forester, a week after the bearing started making noise.  The noise is constant except when the clutch is pressed in. Is this an asap fix?  Or is this something I could just wait on?

  11. for the guy with the cts.. best bet would be the security system kicking in.. he needs to get the key reprogrammed to the new ecu and the security module (usually the same unit) had experienced this a few times with cars that they brought to the alarm shop i use to work at. car sitting for a long time or bad jump-start. we Had to get a locksmith to reflash the key to the ecu to start

  12. Hello, I have an 03 Toyota matrix with 55000 miles on it.  It is running great still and is not driven much each year, maybe 1500 to 2000 miles a year approx. maybe less.  The timing belt has never been done.  Do you think I should spend the money and get that done now, Im not sure what the milage interval is for that car but Im sure its over the time they recommend.  Does the Matrix have an interference engine and if it breaks its going to damage the engine? thanks for any thoughts on this and thanks for the show. H

  13. Hey Eric! Thanks for taking the time to answer my question! seriously? Who doesn't love your videos?! Anyhow, i have 1990 Honda accord sedan 5 speed that leaks transmission fluid. I replaced both axle/ mid shaft seals and it still leaks like it did before, i got them at autozone.  Do you think genuine Honda seals will correct my problem? Or it could be leaking elsewere? P.S. the axle looks like it has drops forming on it still.

  14. What is your opinion of ceramic oil additives?  They claim to be as good as an engine rebuild (somehow restores compression rebuilds cylinder walls etc) and one company even claims ase certified techs use it all the time.  I'm skeptical.

  15. Sup, bro.

So, like, strut braces.  Every Tom, Dick and Harry with a slightly modified car seems to have a swanky aftermarket strut brace.  It seems to be one of the big first 3 mods people do to a car for 'mean street reps', the other 2 being terribly matched wheel rims and a big-bore exhaust.  They insist that the bracing makes the car handle better and that the difference is very noticeable. What are your thoughts on these things, sonny?  are they wank or are they bank?
    Cheerio ol' chap.

  16. hello Eric thank you for all the videos, my question a 2005 Montana when we were driving, the engine RPM goes high but, the car doesn't speed up as required, is this an indication of slippage in the trani.

  17. Hey Eric, I'm a big fan! If you can give me any advice, I would appreciate it and be very thankful! I have a 2004 Honda Civic Coupe that has bumpy shifting and struggles to pick up speed after I let go of the brake and press on the gas to speed up.  I have changed the transmission fluid 2 times (used Honda ATF), I also replaced the spark plugs (used NGKs), and I changed the coolant (used Honda coolant). I also checked the spark plug coils by disconnecting each one to see if they would effect the idle, they all caused the idle to drop. I still feel the bumpy shifting and the car still struggles to pick up speed. I noticed that when I first bought the car that the temperature gauge measured 1/4 of the way up and after I changed the motor mounts it was at the half way mark. I recently noticed that one tire is smaller than the other three; the first number on the tire is 195 instead of 185 like the other three.   I also noticed that when I turn on the lights the idle seems to rise (car shakes a little) as opposed to the idle dropping when the lights are off (very minor shaking). What would you recommend for me to do?

  18. so I have a 99 honda prelude with the h22 engine, my spark plugs are seized on and i want to get them off , can you give me an idea to get them off?

  19. Hey EricTheCarGuy. I just recently bought my first 5 speed car. It's a 1990 Nissan 300zx with 200k miles. I've never driven 5 speed, just automatic, when buying these older cars with this amount of mileage, what should be some things I should look forward to? Thanks love the vids.
