Well the time has come to move things on to the next level so over the next few months ETCG 2.0 will begin to roll out. I’m starting with a video project that I am shooting to kick things off, I’m not going to let you know what it is but it’s not the ETCG video that you have been used to, it’s better. I’m still going to be doing the same informative videos but I’m also going to be rolling out some of these new offerings that I hope you will find just as entertaining and always informative.

hi eric. my man started the big job of timing, serpentine; belts, water pump, & 3 or 4 new pulleys. WITHOUT 1ST FINDING TDC !! NOW hes out there EXHAUSTED from me & his wrkload. trying to put it there. i watched clip on broken belt? but failed to make my cars~life~saving point on how to stop!~start in a.m. fresh cuz now hes got to loosen crank bolts…right? hes pissin me off by starting that way, but as wonderful a car guy as Ive watched here, I know U will explain how to fix his blunder. PLZPLZ[PLZ!! HELP MEW HELP MY CAR & HIM. iM BEGGING U.Im beggiing ! Ive seen how pin drops in driver side peg hole to pin crank as it pops open and its not FEELING right either. hes got a thick scraper blade holding my cams from moving. hes got the kit to lock up pulleys too. but hes just stubborn & its going to land heavy on me when my car ends up in scrapyard from this or me perploding it at its death ! Sarcasm never got me anywhere good, but Im frustrated & afraid. Im a "mek~ a ~ nic myself. but have physical limitations. Im witnessing my cars dissent here. Truly ! a Million gracious, thank you's & more if poss. , for ur honest help. U R a plethora of goodness I look fwd to ur reply. truly, ang. Melrose Oregon.

Thank's a lot for your effort. I really enjoy seeing some of your very informative video on how to do such things. I am planning to set up an automotive shop soon and it will be a great help on my side getting much information from regarding the automotive troubleshooting. Keep up the good works. @Placer Yea, I often do and have never had a problem really. Of course if one breaks or is damaged in some way I don't use it.
Eric, you just helped me replace my own struts, something I never thought I would be capable of doing myself. Here's to you for showing us how it's done, making us chuckle while you do it, and most importantly congratulations on being your own boss!
@jityc That's a comment of the day if I ever saw one, thank you. I actually have plans to do an entire series on electrical but it may be a bit before I get to it unfortunately as I have soo much going on right now. Hang in there I'll be getting to it eventually.
Eric, I just subscribed. These are the best mechanic videos I've seen. You're like the Top Gear of wrenching instead of racing.
Add this to your list of requests: I'd love to see some more electrical how-to videos. Like one on how to use a multimeter and test light. And more on diagnosing electrical problems. I know you've covered this stuff a little bit, but I'm craving more.
Anyway, you're the best. And I'll hope you get some cars in your shop with electrical problems soon.

@9544378456 I messed this up a few weeks ago, and Eric was kind enough to show me what I did wrong. If you have both front wheels off the ground, you may be getting play that is limited by the steering wheel lock. I would keep three wheels on the ground and test one wheel at a time….
@topgrain Thank you for your comment. I wouldn't blame the techs so much for that, many manufacturers have also made it so their products are repaired more through parts replacement rather than actually servicing something. I do believe you have a valid point however.
Thank you for the videos. Very helpful. Every city or town needs at leat one mechanic like you for every 1,000 car owners residing there, instead of the way it is now, when all the mechanics have become nothing but agents for and of the parts suppliers.
Thanks Eric. Gonna need all the luck I can get. For what's worth I just now fixed that starter issue. Since a rebuilt only cost $80 minus $30 core, I just now put in a replacement starter just as you made your last reply. 🙂

In that case I'll check it out the next time the gauge reads 'E' again. that way it will make it a whole lot easyer to drop it down. Thanks Eric.
@Michiganborn1969 The sending unit IS the component that has the float the sends the signal to the gauge and is usually located with the fuel pump in the gas tank (yes you will have to drop the tank to get to it, sorry). I sometimes just leave it connected and turn the key on while I move the float from top to bottom to see what the reading is on the dash to verify it's operation, just disconnect the fuel pump first.
Suuuuure you can, I usualy use the old magic 8 ball sarcasim myself he he he. So if the problem is an eletronic one and not a mecanical one, would this sending unit be in the gas tank with the fuel pump?
@Michiganborn1969 Sorry, the crystal ball is broken. I hope I can be sarcastic like that with you. 🙂 The only way to know whats going on is to remove the sending unit and check it, when I pull them out I run them through the sweep on an ohm meter to see if there are any dead spots in the travel of the arm. In my experience with problems like this the problem usually ends up to be something with the sending unit and not in the dash.
Hi again Eric. I've been having an annoying problem cropping up on my Ranger recently. I'll go to the gas station with the gas gauge reading 'E' and the fuel light on, I'll top off the tank and even give it a few extra clicks to round it to the next nearest dollor. I only get in about 12 – 13 gallons into a 17 gallon tank and my gauge is only reading 7/8 full. Is there some kind of obstruction blocking the float for the fuel and would this be apart of the fuel pump?

@9544378456 I'm gonna try and cover it all here. After a while you will get a "feel" for loose tie rods and steering components, mostly your looking for a "click" as you do your test, try quicker movements, you really only need one person for this but one person watching will help a great deal. As for the alignment the tolerance is 0, you can't align something with any play in it, PA inspection however gives you a 1/4" of play that you can have, scary but true.
@spelunkerd That must be the most ominous comment I've ever gotten. In my defense however my clothes were pretty old and needed replacing, the "enterprise" remains the same however so perhaps I'm in the clear.
