Another competition… Last minute decided to drive down to Sebring for another drift competition. Although I did well I’m not too stoked on how things played out (see below). http://LZMFG.com
Just thought I would try to go into a bit more detail in case things were a bit confusing in the video. With the battle with Matt – we couldn’t decide who was at fault and the judges let us re-run the same battle. To me it felt like he slowed down rather drastically (which would put him at fault), but I wasn’t sure and nor was he. Watching the footage back I probably didn’t lay into the brakes enough – my lack of brake booster probably didn’t help that. Unfortunately on the second run he de-beaded a tire and the rules did not allow him to change a tire mid-round. I think he should have been able to since we re-ran the first run. Also – had we not re-run the first battle he would have de-beaded on the second lap and we would have gotten a “one more time”. I would’ve liked to get another battle as I truly feel like Matt would have won or we would have had some crazy battles. Tommy wasn’t filming from outside so I didn’t have that angle.
On the final battle with Dallas it was kind-of a similar scenario, except he was battling car issues and apparently had over-centered and drastically slowed down (you can see his wheels turned the wrong way before we collide). Again – my lack of brake booster probably didn’t help and the fact I was playing catch up probably made it worse. Because he was judged at fault – I was given time to fix my car and complete the second battle, where I would automatically win so long as I didn’t spin out.
Obviously the given scenarios are not an ideal way to win, but sometimes things just happen. The good thing is we’re all friends and no one had hard feelings about how anything played out. I learned to be a little bit less aggressive on a course like this and will probably still tweak my brake setup.
Luckily both dallas and matt had pretty much no damage and I’m not upset at all about the damage on the car – I planned on respraying a bunch of stuff anyway. Just gotta find some doors – hit me up if you have some!
2 years later he is drifting in FD pro 1
