I have one with muther thumper roller cam with 502 heads
how without superchager or turbo 752hp ? thats insane
Pat is a great guy and he knows his stuff, don’t let the pencil protecter, flashlight and tale measure on his hip fool you. Most people do not know he was an instructor at SAM Tech back in the day. He also had a beautiful big block red G body Malibu they campaigned in NMCA. They won many NMCA titles and the car was featured in Hot Rod magazine.
I remember seeing there were a lot of needle bearing failures in solid, roller lifter wheels, especially in solid street applications!??! It was thought that the needle rollers were not sufficient to withstand the concentrated load bearing, and a bushed wheel was deemed more durable. Bearings were failing – loosening up and winding up in the oilpan or worse! Anyone else hear of this?
Put That In A '68-'72 CORVETTE!
PLEASE DONT PUT THAT IN ANOTHER PICKUP! JEEZ THERES ENOUGH OF THEM ALREADY!
Really surprised on that low of a torque number out of a 496. Pretty healthy piece otherwise
dropped the oil pan to remove timing cover on a BBC? *sigh
Not a fan of soilds on the street, sweet motor though!
The Super Sniper will handle up to 1500 hp, but building a N/A BBC that MAKES 1500 hp is not so easy, or cheap. What I would like to see is a 496 set up for a top of the line Brodix SR20 or Brodix BRX(same thing) head or AFR Magnum 18 degree and see how it compares. These heads are quite expensive, so let's rock your Dyno!
Wish now I'd have gone with Holley instead of Fitech…😢 Sick build! 🤘
Love big block Chevy engines.
$2500 for the Holly kit for the accessory drive ☺︠thats a lot of money for that lol
To be honest I would rather have the previous combo with the extra 50 lb feet of torque you lost with this combo.
Geez that accessory drive is messed up. Hope that alternator likes spinning around 30k rpm…
Only thing that I'd have added to push that engine even harder would have been forged pistons, but those aren't practical for a driver car but that would have let them wind her up closer to 8000rpm without the real fear she'd rip a piston apart
I have 454 Home that’s been marinating waiting for me to tear it down I’m gonna build this exact engineðŸÂ†ðŸÂ†ðŸÂâ€
At 8:07 just above the socket on the pan bolt it looks like the block is cracked. I asked a vintage trans am car owner why Traco painted there motor what looked like off white.
He told me it showed oil leaks and cracks the best. I see that now.
what would be the cost to build it ??
Pat is the Man! Frankie maybe someday.
Finally..some BBC I can get behind!
There seems to be a crack in the block as shown 8:07 minutes into in the video. I'm just wondering if this crack would be a cause for concern in the longevity of the engine life. Either way, I always enjoy watching these videos. Keep em coming! 💯
Its still way off 100hp per ltr. Keep trying boys, there's a ways to go. We have Chrysler 440s pulling these numbers. I think its too much carby.
You should wipe that leaking assembly spray off before putting on valve cover. Who's idea to paint that engine butt ugly white? Oh boy!!
I don’t think I would have built that block for any kind of power like they making. The block is cracked… you can see it when the silicone is going back on for the pan at 8:07…
What transmission would be a perfect match for this engine?
17:15–18:31–19:46
The torque output is horrible.
Them heads are way to big for the engine. The 320 was already over kill.
Think I would have made it 11.5:1 compression. Aluminum heads drop the compression ration almost a full point and fuel injection timing helps compensate for detonation issues.
