This is a kind of video response to a question I got from RadicalComedy about servicing her AC system. Keep in mind that this is a very basic overview of the components and operation of the AC system. In future installments I plan to get more in depth about the operation and function of these parts but for now I think 6 minutes of your time is enough.

  1. I'm trying to figure out why my ac doesn't work. I did test my clutch and it did not engauge. I also tested the incoming voltage and I'm reading 12vdc. And when the car is running. I'm reading 14vdc with or without the ac button turned on. Should I have continuous power going into ac clutch system? It should read 0vdc and when I call for a/c. It should read 12vdc into the clutch coil.

  2. In todays world you can reference most any auto shop online look for comments section, this knowlege should scare the bejebers out of the crooked mechanics.

  3. Thank you for this A/C video . I was wondering what could be making a weird noise in my 2001 Toyota Sienna Van. I did think it was something to do with the AC/ heat system. When i turn on the AC sometimes the system makes a howling noise kinda like the sound you get when you swirl your finger on the lips on a Glass vase . So im guessing its from the belt on the ac compressor maybe? my usual mechanics say they cant figure it out… Also during winter when i turn the heat on , i cant keep it on for long because it starts giving out this weird musty/burned oil smell … so i cant use the heat . I also told my mechanics this and they seem to make up excuses not to figure it out,… maybe you could give me some feed back , thanks!

  4. Great lesson, Eric! Which port (H/L) do you fill the PAG oil, since it is a circular system it seems to me either is ok. Is that correct?

  5. Do vacuum pump remove some pag oil from the AC system? I want to evacuate then vacuum my car ac system because I accidentally introduced air into the system I did not purge the low side hose before I started charging freon to the system..

  6. I brought a fridge van to convert to a camper. The AC (fridge van AC) just needed a fuse put in to start. When I tried it last year it didn't work so I left it alone (no cold). Put in the fuse last week and it worked for two days. Was good. Now it's not working the compressor clutch works for a bit (10-20secs) and then releases. I'm assuming not enough pressure on the low port (maybe there was some gas nocking about and it worked for a short time) so was going to fill with gas until it has some on the low-pressure port but unsure. It doesn't go cold now. Any ideas?

  7. I bought that tool from a Refrigeration supplier. I asked about fittings for a/c system for vehicle ?They had no idea. What coupler size do I ask for ???

  8. Hello, I have a question about my 1956 Cadillac originally has a generator , now I want to install a new AC system do I have to change to a alternator or the original generator can handle the fan and all that came with a new install ?

  9. What happens if you open a line over night because the compressor you have did not match what u got and had to wait till you get a new one. Once everything is put back together, you vacuumed the system for like 45mins or so. Would that that be still ok?

  10. Hey Eric, I have a 96 Jeep Cherokee, my mechanic replaced the high & low pressure AC lines and the compressor. But it's only blowing out cool air not cold. Should I look into the condenser and liquid line as the next root cause?

  11. eric why on are 2007 nissan muano the clutch on the ac is engaging but when i try to put freon in it it goes below the o on the can instead of trying to take the freon can you tell me what mignt be wrong

  12. Hi Erik, I like your video of A/C great explanation. I have a question, why my Saturn Vue A/C only blows cool air when my car is moving, when I stop in a red light blows hot air, do you have an idea how to solve my problem..

  13. What can be done with a 1987 dodge d150 ac system that had been sitting for awhile but now is my daily I put a new compressor on it and went to charge the system and it cooled for a moment the next day I drove it and nothing was coming out cold and my sight glass looks rusty.

  14. My 04 silverado is making a intermittent whistling noise from the cabin evaporator area. When it whistles the air blows colder and then blows warm until it whistles agian. Only whistles when throttle is pressed.sitting still it doesn't whistle but doesn't really blow very cold while sitting still either. Any advise?

  15. So when you retrofit a system do you remove the old Schrader valve and twist on the new valve with the new Schrader valve also can just add some oil and dye through the charging line with Freon

  16. Does it matter how far away your receiver dryer is from the Condensor like if you want to hide the receiver dryer under the fender
