If you love working with tools and are looking to switch things up in your career. Matco might just have the answer for you! This week on PowerNation, Matco brings in one of its mobile tool stores and gives you details on how you can go into business for yourself. Katie sits down with franchise owner Sean Daniels and gets into how it changed his career for the better giving him more flexibility in his schedule!

Matco provides all the training needed. Director of Franchise Sales, Allen Plunk, stops in to talk a little bit about what’s involved in the process. First up is the qualification stage, then it moves on to identifying your route. Territory gets surveyed and you can drive around and check it out. From there they send you the product that you can load in your store. As of now, there are about 1,800 stores across the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico.

After those processes are complete, you head to the Matco Headquarters in Stow, OH for a 2-week classroom training that involves things like point of sale systems, sales training, and what you can expect on your route! An instructor spends time with you on your route making sure you have everything you need for yourself and your customers.

Matco also supports veterans and has special programs in place to help get them into business. For more information head to https://www.gomatco.com

  1. I’ve purchased many tools from Matco and since I’ve become disabled, I looked into Franchiising for my area but was turned down instantly! Credit must be a high priority! I have funding assistance to allow me to work but wasn’t given any options

  2. Here’s a fact. I’ve been in the automotive repair industry for 30 years. 20-25 years ago a Matco rep could make a comfortable living doing what he loved. My favorite rep was a toolbox selling beast. He literally put a Snapon rep out of business. Guess what, Matco got greedy and started cutting their reps territory size(I challenge a Matco official to dispute this). Some reps lost over half of the territory that they had built loyal customers in. I wouldn’t touch a tool franchise with a ten foot pole now. My favorite Matco guy is dead now but after the way he was treated if he were here he’d tell you to to stay away. Snapon is even worse. Matco’s trying to make more profits by rebranding Taiwan knockoffs with their label on it. Matco has always rebranded their items but it used to be high quality USA made tool companies that did it for them. If I want Taiwan knockoffs I’ll go to Horrible Freight and pay half what the tool truck is asking. I don’t mind paying a premium for USA made tools but I’m not for knockoffs.
I’ve spent easily $30 grand just in Matco tools alone not counting the other brands I own so I feel like I have earned the right to complain about the sellout of USA made tools among “American” tool distributors. You guys cannot be Horrible Freight and you’ll loose trying to compete with their knockoffs.
