RIP Joe.
What carb is that
Ford 390 intercepter lb for lb better than both.
They need to do one on the 3.8 buick Grand national. Bored out and opened up.
This is awesome, wish i could do this with my big block !
Chevy ALWAYS kicks Fords ass… lol !! 😎
So the 454 made 407hp at 4000rpm? But only 2 more horsepower (409) at 4500rpm? Why not run to 5000+ rpm?
228-238@50 thats the summit classic cam. Lift is .540- .540
10g cdn for 400 hp these days
Onecomplaint I usually have with youtube is all the blab and posturing but this was actually short form to the point.
The Monte Carlo is the last muscle car what about the 1996 Impala Super Sport
$700 machine work bill?
This show has always been Chevy biased so i call bullshit
Very informative Im getting my 88 truck rebuild , learning y building as i go on my 454 engine😜
you can drop that 454 into my 68 chevelle!
Engine mounts not motor mounts
Hi nice video where to get the tapered 14mm washer
They used a bigger cam and better ignition on the chevy and probably running higher compression so yeah it’s goin go make more
This is one of the most American channels ever
I bet it would have been a lot closer if you would have massaged the thermactor exhaust port bumps, the BBF exhaust kills quit a bit of power.
Not it
Why does that back from commercials guy have to talk like that? You know, that SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY!!! CAR CRUSHING MONSTER TRUCKS!!! FLAME THROWING DOMINATORSAURUS!! wrestling announcer voice. – with the hard rock guitar noise that military fighter jets get usually.
I have a 454 in a 72 Yenko Nova. You guys want to build it?
No way I would use any cork gaskets. Leaky ass crap.
What was the cam specs
Give a big block 10 degrees more of intake duration at .050 lift , a dual pattern camshaft for more lift on the exhaust side than on the intake side and it made more power? Very unsurprising, especially when you put a high rise large runner Weiand Stealth on a very small cammed engine. Everyone who knows anything about motors knows you don't put a high rise intake on a small camshaft equipped motor that needs a dual pattern camshaft. It would make more power with a standard Edelbrock Performer intake. I yanked the Weiand off my boat engine because it was lazy down low rpm until I hit about 3800rpms. My engine had a similar cammed engine. The Performer really improved throttle response and power throughout the pull . , 12 ft lbs of torque at 3400 rpm and 8 horsepower at 4800 rpm, the boat simply did not have enough camshaft for the large flowing Weiand. A standard factory square flanged Ford intake would beat both the Weiand and Prrformer below 3,000 RPM. Why? Because it was made to make low end torque.
All high rise intakes are designed to make power with camshafts that have at least .235 degrees of duration on the intake side . The 454 had a camshaft of 228 degrees intake duration and the Ford's camshaft was 218 degrees duration at .050 lift so it's torque curve was roughly 500 rpm's higher than the poorly equipped Weiand topped engine.
NOTHING LIKE SITTING IN CAR WITH POWER 60TO90PRESS PETAL DOWN LITTLE MORE
CHEVY WILL EITHER BLOW OR GO
I LOVE SOLIDE LIFT312555CAMOLD DDT CAM MAKES 60!H.P.ON 93 OCTAN
What gen. 454 would you recommend for a 500-600hp build. Gen 4 or gen 5?
Are any of these engines available for purchase
The blond dude is one of the most American people i've ever seen
What's crazy is, I'm gonna be getting a 1985 Monte Carlo body and was wondering what kind of engine, and this video had me wanting to remake this bad boy
Just beat the crap out of the cam bearings on that assembly 🙄
Does anyone else think that Mike is a lookalike to Chase Elliot? I swear that if he put on a NAPA driving suit they'd be identical.
That guy was zero funks given about nicking a cam bearing
I would literally volunteer to help anyone to get a chance to buy the engine for my 87 dodge D150
Thats one sexy ass monte
That’s not a muscle car !!! Morons muscle cars were late 60s to late 70s!!!!!!
Gotta love the mighty RAT
I gota ? Who really did this setup for a 454.
I realize I'm late to the party, and there are too many comments for me to read them all so forgive me if what I'm about to say is already in the record. I watched this and the Ford 460 video and noticed the 454 Chevy got the benefit of more generous cam timing. The 460 got a Comp 268 High Energy at 218 degrees intake/exhaust. The 454 got a Summit camshaft with 228/238 degrees intake/exhaust. This doesn't make for an even comparison.
no surprise to me the 454 won I knew it would. those 460s with stock heads are not that great.
That big block Chevy is a thing of beauty.
I would still like to see a Mopar 440 in this comparison. That would round out the comparison.
What would have been nice is to run the same cam in both. 10 more degrees is a big diff. Comp makes the 268 high energy for both.
i wish you would have used 69 corvette 427, 435 hp heads, same thing On my motor,But I made 610 hp 595 ft pounds
