In this episode of Fixing it Forward I start work on the 2005 Honda Odyssey. It gets a complete 4 wheel brake job along with a brake fluid change. I also replace the RF inner CV boot, test the catalytic converter, recondition the headlights, and I find a few new parts to buy.
We’ve made progress, but there is still a ways to go and more episodes to come before I give this van away to someone in need. Stay tuned!

7:09 💩 Same thing.
Happy to see this back.
Hey Eric-
When was the last time you serviced Elvis?
(Wall clock)
Quick video please?
This is so incredible of you & dedicated viewers.
Great job, Eric. You're awesome for helping someone in need
Long time no see ETCG.
From now on I’m going to call you EricTheHondaMaster ðŸ‘ÂÂðŸÂ½
Bill Burr mentioned you on a podcast with Mike Tyson! Was floored but it made sense because he's a car guy. Figured I'd spread the news.
haha "I kinda fixed it, I might re-use it…", then the next guy doing the brake job can't get that set screw out 🙂
great work Eric ! Sure ENJOYED.. Thanks
"""Properly fix this""" lol
Man thanks alot just watched a video from 2013 on transmissions and you did a great job…thanks again…
Is the bumper missing a piece of Styrofoam
Hahahahahahahahahaha catalytic converters? Whats that 😉
Eric it seems like you are having some microphone issues. Like maybe it’s getting wrapped in your jacket? Not sure but it happens often enough to drive me bonkers!
Nice beard bro no homo…
I think 250F isn't hot enough to activate the catalytic converter and they have 0 effectiveness at such a low temp, you should double check after letting the car run long enough for the temp to stabilize, I think it needs to be at least 600F for good operation.
Awesome work Eric 😄😄
Doing good work. Just curious though, were the brake rotors too damaged to turn/sand back into usable condition? Or did you replace them more for time saving? Thanks.
I was watching my typical car channels, and your video popped up as a recommended. Pretty cool that you'd do this work and give it to someone who needs it.
Thought you retired.!! ??
Eric the air intake "snorkel" on my 2011 Odyssey split on the corrugated section and I didn't notice it for a number of months. During that time I always had a rough idle on start up especially in the winter. Now that I have replaced the snorkel the idle is much better but it isn't completely smooth. Do you think that condition would create excess carbon build up in the EGR valve and introduce a new rough idle issue? Keep up the great work. I love these videos.
I'm a Brake and Alignment tech up here in Alaska and everything is very (VERY) rusty, watching you impact those rotor fasteners back in made me cringe. lol good work boss
Fixing it Forward fits the ordinary drivers' situations the most. It shows how to diagnose and fix the most common issues for old, used cars. Basically, it is a 100k miles major maintenance DIY.
Are you in mason ohio I heard you was I'm in loveland need a truck work on thanks
For my ChevySilverado 2003 1500 it’s write on the board “brake service system†do I have to change the master cylinder? Or it’s another piece??
do you put any never seize between the brake discs and the hub.? or between wheel and brake disk so they dont get seized together with the road salt?
Those headlights still look foggy.
I have to get both of my boots done (driver & passenger) side. Dealer wants to replace the whole units. They are saying it will cause clicking sounds if I just do the boots. Audi Q5 is the vehicle is question. Not covered under warranty since to them it's a "wear" item.
11:22 — arrgh there be some pirate air coming in… If it were a MAF equipped vehicle
16:30 — F in the chat
Press F to pay respects
Your the man your work is outstanding ass always
We used to have the tool to stretch the boot over
Fixing it forward. Great conceptðŸ‘ÂÂ. I did similar with Honda CBX motorcycle valve shims. I have a lot of them, even the thicker ones that aren’t very common. A fellow in the Midwest needed some, so I mailed him 5 or 6 which he was able to use. He asked me what size I wanted in return. I told him to play them forward if he ran across somebody who needed some that he had.
Brake rotor screw: "You shall not pass!"
Eric: "That's okay. I have methods.. 😎"
7:10 someone squeezed the queso
The passenger side sliding door of my moms 07 odyssey will not do anything. It doesn't make any sound whatsoever when the handle is pulled on inside or outside of the door. Nor does it make a difference when I push the button beside the steering wheel. I've performed the reset procedure using the fuse panel on the inside if the vehicle and it made no change. Any idea what could be wrong when the door doesn't do anything at all.
I haven't seen your channel in years, I forgot how good it is, but I barely recognized you? You're rockin' the full-on Grizzley Adams look now, haha! Thanks for always answering questions and the great content!
When I did a brake job years ago I wasn't aware of the brake pad hardware. So I re-used the original. This time round, I am more prepared than ever.
You mention boogered threads… I ordered used axles and guess what? One was fine, the other slightly misshaped. It must have taken me 2 hours with a die to get that recovered. I did the nuts and now they spin so nicely.
7:08 sounds like someone's squeezing to much? 🙂
Hitting one hammer against another = BAD idea. Hammer faces are hardened. Ready to send chips at your face.
Eric, you're so humble, honest and awesome!
lol saw you take the air hammer and immediately lowered my volume
You could at least dust off the spider webs.
Nice fart at 7:09.
Almost looks like South Main Auto Repair was there already with that clean wheel hub
Who gets rustier cars, Eric or Eric?
Misfires, burning oil and clogged cats are classic VCM created issues.
