  1. I've used those little plastic finger pads on die grinders and had them remove material, despite the insistence of my boss saying plastic can't remove metal.. as sparks fly while he's using it..

  2. I know I'm late to the party on this one, but is it worth doing rear crank seal whilest we are here and how long would that take do you think?

  3. 9 years later, should I tackle my clutch? :o) The old girl is now 18 years old and that might be fine for dating but is quite an age for an automobile 😀 Anyhoo! Great vid to see how my RHD car comes apart. if you have the box out make sure to free off the speed sensor. It is an absolute prick of a job in the car

  4. So what about possible Asbestos material inside the clutch and airtools causing that to shoot up into the air? I find the conflicting info and division amongs the automotive community on this to be perplexing lol.

  5. i am watching this and thinking "why did i buy a focus… now i'm thinking "?what a pain in the ar4se" seriously i am not encouraged at all ! I have a 2000 and a 2004 model and thinking i should cut my i should get rid of the 2004 model and scrap the 2000 one (which needs a clutch job) and cut my losses because this is more hassle than its worth

  6. I love these ETCG videos his videos are the only ones i can find where he literally goes step by step to show u how to do something. Take it from someone that knows absolutely nothing about cars, I've watch his video on changing a starter once and i was able to do it myself. So thanks Eric keep making your videos cuz you're the best.

  7. My mechanic doing clutch and valve cover gasket for 500, including machining flywheel.. I came here to see if this is a diy possibility.. thanks Eric I know feel absolutely 100% comfortable paying this amount for warrantied, professional work on this

  8. I’m About to get my clutch replaced in my 03 focus by a licensed mechanic.bought my parts and charging me $350 on labor.im afraid he’ll find something else other that my clutch..

  9. took me all day but just finished up dropping my first tranny on a 2.0 focus and got it alll back together with only one broken fender liner clip. woop woop. needed 2 jacks available and extra set of hands getting it back in though

  10. pro tip when you pull the clutch line off (or fuel line etc…) I use those rubber vacuum plugs/caps and slip them over the line so it doesnt keep leaking everywhere.

  11. Well now I know two things…

    1. I could never do this on my own.
    2. Paying somebody to do this would be more than I paid for the car! Guess I'm selling it if the clutch starts to go.

Too bad too. I like my Focus. Oh well. Thanks for the video Eric even tho the vid is so old now you won't even see this comment.

  12. The plastic-fingered abrasive brush ETCG uses to clean up the flywheel surface appears to be 3M's Scotch-Brite Roloc Bristle Disc.

  13. I just did this job. Not too bad. I had the other style slaves cylinder. There are two different 5 speeds Ford used and you must have the other. Personally I like Lux clutches. Put several in and they're great. Also use the new style of bleed valve that doesn't require any tools.

  14. This is a fantastic four-part video! I watched this over and over in preparation for my Focus' clutch job. I sailed through in five hours – even did the throw-out bearing! Thanks a million, Eric!

  15. Also I see that spi focus has a bracket that supports the exhaust, rite behind the downstream o2 sensor. My Zetec Focus doesn't have that exhaust mount to eliminate vibration! Im sure that not having that mount is why my flange leaks & i go threw exhaust gaskets constantly! & STILL MY EXHAUST IS STILL LOUD. seems a trip to the junkyard is in order! just like on my old 92 grand am, it didn't have a specific (TOP, FRONT motor mount that many achiva & Skylark 3.3ltr motors have.tho Pontiac seemed to think that my 3.3 didn't need it.even tho it went threw motor mounts left & right, from excessive vibration from lack of the 4th mount! After a trip 2 a junkyard & installing said mount= NO MORE PROBLEMS! my 1st MOTOR MOUNT WENT OUT RITE IN FRONT OF A RUBBER STORE, THANX TO (WHEELING RUBBER)& THEY HOOKED ME UP ON THE CHEAP WITH THE EXACT PIECE OF RUBBER SO I COULD REBUILD MY MOUNT FOR $3 DOLLARS= HUGE SAVINGS!!!!!THANK 2 YOU ETCG!!!! NOW I KNOW THE PART MY CURRENT CAR NEEDS!!!!SEEING THAT EXHAUST MOUNT = NOW I KNOW WHY I KEEP HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS OVER & OVER WITH MY EXHAUST!== FORD CHEAPING OUT!!!! ETCG SAVING THE DAY AGAIN!!!! HE'S THE MAN!!!!! THANKS!!!

  16. ETCG, PLEASE LET ME GET THE PART OR MODEL # OF THAT TOOL YOU CONNECTED THE SEAT BELT TO, TO HOLD THE MOTOR?????? I WANT THAT!!!!

  18. You need a balljoint separator tool – or fork and sledge hammer to get most lower tracking arm ball joints apart. That is best way not to damage the lower joint gaitor also. might not be recommended but I have seen people using 2 no 2" x 8" timber joist to use as the strut bar support – if you are only doing one job and dont want to buy a steel one – and it works ok 2 timbers bolted together that is UK class c24 timber though

  19. What is better? To machine the Flywheel or to change it with a new one (much more expensive)?

  20. ericthecarguy …what are the procedures for replacing flywheel on 2002 focus zx3 dohc…ordering a LuK flywheel Monday …are these thing bolt off bolt on …anything in the middle there?????

  21. I did a clutch job on my dads focus and this helped a lot. The hardest part of the job by far for me was removing the through/pin bolts for the lower ball joints. I managed to get them out using the "screw the nut on flush and whack it with a 4 pounder till your hands fall off" method but not before completely destroying them. I had to go and buy new ones which, luckily, my local auto shop had in stock. I think it would have gone more smoothly if id had an air hammer, I think that's one of the major advantages to having a compressor as there really is no comparable counterpart to the air hammer in cordless electric. I tried smacking it out with an SDS on hammer only mode but no dice. An SDS is nowhere near as powerful.

  22. Eric, I need to take off my hydraulic line and It is a little different than the one you worked on. I took the metal clip out, but it is 1 tube going to the bell housing/ slave cylinder and it has a bleeder screw. It doesn't snap out. how do you disconnect the hydraulic line?
