1999 Tahoe HVAC Head Unit Replacement – EricTheCarGuy

Home

Welcome back to another episode of ETCG where we boldly go where we haven’t before, taking apart the dash on this 1999 Chevy Tahoe. To be honest it was easier than I thought, if I were to do it again I would try first cleaning the switch and if that didn’t work I would just replace the switch for the problem this truck had. I’m learning things here too you know.

  1. This is an old video, but I looked at it recently so others may too. Eric points out the fan switch is serviceable, true and I went that route. The problem is this whole switch from that era is know by GM to be "problematic". It doesn't just control the fan but the whole system. Mine never seemed to work right and the blower was weak. The second time around I replaced the whole (expensive ) unit. For the first time ever the system is functionally correctly. The air really blows hard and I can hear the doors working internally. My suggestion is don't bother replacing the fan switch, bite the bullet and replace the whole thing, especially if by some miracle you still have the original switch unit.

  2. What hell you doing you don't have to take that lower panel off. Pull upper panel off and unplug your light switches and cargo switch.

  3. hi erik i have 99 tahoe im having my clutch turning on & off even though my a/c is completely off,(even ac button is off)could it be something electrical on compressor or a bad control panel?

  4. I know this is a old video but I have a 99 gmc yukon (pretty much same truck) and you can replace the switch and not the whole unit. it's called the blower motor switch like 20 bucks from autozone.

  5. My '97 Silverado C2500 only has Low or High, currently. I have done this before. The instrument bezel easily comes off with your fingers, alone. Just pull the top of the bezel forward, lean it forward, disconnect any plugs. Then engage the parking brake, switch the ignition to run, lower the gearshift, tilt the wheel down, and pull it off the rest of the way. then you have access to the HVAC and radio, or whatever else you need to work on behind the bezel area. The two amber button lights on the HVAC are not listed, but they are a European size of which I can't remember the number at the moment. The amber color is from a little silicone sock that fits over the light. You can Physically remove the fan switch, but there is no replaceable part, unless you take a working switch from another HVAC control to fix it, meaning you have to find one that something else doesn't work and take the fan switch from it. Be careful with the plastic clips, or they WILL break!

  6. I have a 04 ford taurus. and I have no heat just warm air comes out but it's dies out after a min or two and cold air comes out. the middle counsel where the a/c and heat switch are the lights are supposed to turn on but it don't so whenever it does turn on, on its own my heats works good. what can it be?

  7. I have this same model car runs great but I have an issue with my ac controller to thanks for the video  mine only works on 2 speeds other 2 don't work at all. or they are intermittent.

  8. My fan will randomly quit working, bumping the unit and twisting the knob a little will get it working again. Do you think its the control unit like yours was?

  9. Love all your videos and have been watching them in order from the first to last.  I know this vid is older, but when dealing with most electronic components shouldn't you disconnect the battery just to be safe?  Also would get rid of the oh so annoying beeping haha.

  10. Thanks for the video!! I need to replace my radio and you just saved me lots of hassles! I was wondering if I could move the a/c switch assembly to the CD player location to make room for a double din radio but in your video it looks like they are not interchangeable. Time to enact plan B.

  11. Autozone has replacement switches I keep a spare in my console just incase . First time this happend I purchased the whole panel cost $175.00 now just the switch. Thank you for the great video:-)

  12. Hi Erick, you could tell me where I can buy online, an a / c Control switch for 99 tahoe. the problem I have is, if control switch on but no cold air, the compressor does not operate the clutch. This type of control switch be repaired?

  13. Watched this video when looking for something else. Good job. I liked how you took the bottom off by accident but left it in the video anyway
