Will This 1956 Buick Special DRIVE 1,200 MILES Back Home? (P1) – Car Mod Pros Portal

Part 1 of 3: After an exhaustive 10-year search, I found my Late Fathers old 1956 Buick Special 2 door hardtop way down in Texas. Of course, I’m just going to jump in the car and attempt to drive it home 1,200 miles from Texas to Minnesota! Think I’ll make it on?

  1. Cool story. I never had a family vehicle that shared so much love. I did have a 71 chevelle ss matching numbers that was professionally retsored on a rotisserie. $10,000 paint job back in the late 90's with brand new interior. Car was immaculate. No family history but I would probably cry if if I bought that car back.some people just dont understand the connection between a guy and his vehicles. Some of us find them more reliable than well you get it? Atleast we can do preventive maintenance on a car.

  2. What are memories worth you can’t put a price on something that you can’t replace I lost my dad 12 years ago I know where you are coming from I’ve been trying to track down an old 1969 chev pu I’m currently building a 1940 Chevy business coupe as my dad had one when he was courting mama

  3. "For someone who had an auto show on a Major Cable network, a successful YouTube channel, recently purchased a farm. Then complain about a 2-ton jack you bought at Harbor Freight and call it "crap"? Really, if that's the case, why didn't you purchase a higher quality hydro-jack from a major retailer? Harbor Freight is what it is! A poor man's "Sears". So put your money where your mouth is and STOP BITCHING!

  4. Jay Leno has his original Buick similar to yours.
Of course it's been framed up and its a daily driver.
It has a bigger more powerful motor but is still basically stock.

Some things that could be causing the overheating:
    Clogged/cracked radiator.
    Clogged/wore out water pump.
    Clogged water passages.
    Wrong thermostat.
    Bad radiator cap.
A lubricant/ stop leak works for small radiator leaks.
    Try a seven blade fan.
I enjoy your videos because their different than the others.
I patched up old cars because I couldn't afford new ones!
    FOR CRYIN IN THE MUD!!😣😭

  5. You’re pulling at my heart strings; I’m 71, Grandad was a machanic, my uncle had a red and white one. Now I don’t remember his model and all, but it was two door. My Uncle Love this thing and always was doing something with it at the Garage. Grandad had a two bay garage, so this big red beast was always in the way. Everyone was light hearted and making jokes about this Buick ‘unSpecial!’ 😂washed in memories. Thanks Derek.

  6. beautiful car! my grandpa had a fairlane i cant remember if it was a 56' but it was a hardtop convertible. it never ran my whole life it sat under the barn on his property for years until he moved and had a shop and parked it in there. it was straight though, had a complete engine and drivetrain. no rust besides surface rust he had all the trim ready to go on the car it really just needed seats for it to be driveable and for the engine to get running. I regret never asking him as a kid for us to work on it together, when he passed my grandma sold it for dirt cheap because she didnt understand what it was worth. I was a teenager when he passed and didnt know much about cars at the time and i regret not restoring. The guy who bought restored it and its won a couple trophies at some car shows.

  7. Paint it back yellow if you want I think it would be cool to many cars out there are black
I’m a Buick guy myself I own a new Buick and old ones I love Buick. Of course I don’t jive with the normal I’m like oil in water 😂

  8. I blew a top hose out Ohio on turn pike trying to make it to Polly by 7am with a load sidewalk salt on a flat bed semi middle of the night not to many top coolant hoses around for a 1192 freightliner fld flat top only a 9 speed transmission so a long way to 72. Mph with 9 holes only and 80 thousand pounds of loaded I fixed it with a wood shim on each side and duct taped luckily I unloaded near hockey supply store I covered it with hockey taped made it all the way back to western Wisconsin out Philly with a 50’000 pound steel coil going St. Paul mninasota the hose made it ionly had 3 gallons of coolant the rest water still made yep you can stop and buy one it was working so keep moving paid buy percentage of the load not even by the mile hammer down a cat B engine tough equipment about 4 million miles on the truck just keep rebuilding the cat I made it home changing the hose a semi has 10.5 gallons of antifreeze in tit so not quick process running and staying cool keep moving
